Interesting car related things that happened yesterday! Above is a Toyota Scout 1900, the first Toyota pickup in America.
Saw a KL cherokee trailhawk hauling a 19 foot airstream, looking like it was no big thing.
New "camp" fridge. Its a little bulky at 22 cubic feet though.
And this, write your own caption.
And one I don't have a picture for, but it looks like this
ARB 2000 awning. Stoked to try it out!

To be fair, you could probably tow a 19' Airstream with a motorized pogo stick.
Also, I note that awning requires a minimum height vehicle - otherwise would be less than useless.

I've always been interested in an awning. Also how hard was it to take the second row of seats out?

Really? hmm, didn't even give it a second thought. I think my cruiser should fit the bill nicely, given that its about as tall as the one in the pic.

4500 gvwr is nothing to sneeze at in terms of trailer weight for a vehicle in that class. My popup is only 3400 gvwr and its a lot of trailer for my cruiser.

I do it all the time when I camp, it literally takes 3-4 minutes. 4 14mm bolts per seat...done.

Well, obviously - but an accessory for a Subaru that awning is not. Unless one is, in fact, under 5' tall.

yeah, that makes sense. I'll bet it would have worked on my forester, or the last gen outback (man those things were huge)

Have airstreams put on a lot of weight in the past 2 decades or so? We had one ages ago and I don't think it was anywhere near that lardy. I *know* our Coleman Plantation popup was vastly heavier.
To make an aluminum monocoque that heavy requires Doing Something Wrong, regardless of quality of furnishings. At least it's still slippery so flatlanders can save gas.

Is that pickup for sale? The want is so strong.
Our family was this close to convincing my brother to buy a KL. He did not like the design though.
What are you using to mount the awning on?

The pickup might be for sale for the right price, contact Kurt at Cruiser outfitters if you want to see. As for the KL, the styling is..um..bad but its a pretty great car for its class.
I bought some angle iron at hoe depot and will make some brackets for a yakima round.

And if I remember correctly the V6 Cherokee's max tow weight is 4500lbs. A lot for it's size. But then you have to think of the 500-1000 pounds worth of stuff in the camper.

So, great story, Kinja ate your comment in here but I can see it in my notifcations (regarding the lardy airstream) in fact, I'll just copy and paste.

The GVRW for a 19 foot is 4500, dry 3800. It IS an American company after all.

Oh it's Kurt's? I could never...
The KL has really grown on me. I really like it.

Dealt with Kurt before? I'm finding myself in his shop more and more these days

4500 lbs is the GVWR of the trailer, meaning thats the max load it can carry, dry its ~3800 lbs

I haven't. All the posts I read on ExPo are all positive, though. For all I know it could be his baby and I'd be stepping over the line. Ultimately, I don't have a place to work on it, so the less I think about it, the better, haha.

It sits there, cracked glass, holding parts. Im not sure how tied he is to it, I guess it depends on how bad you want it. Kurt is a stellar guy, I've loved dealing with him, very friendly, knowledgeable and will take the time to talk with you about anything, even if he's super busy. His shop is well organized and seems to be expanding at a nice rate. I'd definitely recommend him to anyone, for parts or service.

I'm glad his business is growing. Hopefully I'll make the pilgrimage to Moab one of these years and swing by.

Im still thinking about a fall oppo trip if you can make it.

That sounds like fun, what dates you have in mind?

School will be in full swing around that time. To work for me, it'd have to be a weekend, given there are no tests, etc.
I bet quite a few of us would be down for this, thanks for even considering doing it.

I've seen at least half a dozen that would be interested... out of curiosity, what type of experience would you want if you came? Im trying to decide between trying to get some sponsors and making a big deal about it, or just making it a cool do your own thing kind of event.

I'm still pretty inexperienced when it comes to more technical trails, at risk of sounding co-dependent, I'd need someone experienced leading me around. I've never been to a big wheeling event but I'd welcome both, but definitely not one left to own devices.

Good to know. I've never bothered but it does make the difference between me being able to sleep in the back without the tailgate down. I've always just brought a tarp and some bungees.

On my last trip, I bought bug net and a DC fan and taped the next to me rear windows and put the fan in there, took out the seats and had 3 great nights sleep.

Yeah on my short list of projects is making magnetic screens for the windows. DC fan is a nice touch that I hadn't considered...

I found a square one at target that practically snaps into the window opening, nice.
