Hello Opponauts, I have a theory question, which may seem stupid. Can you swap an engine that was in a RWD car into an AWD car? Thanks and please no judgment.

Edit: For clarity, I'm talking S54 into a 325xit

Anything's possible...the biggest issue here is that the layout of the AWD system may not allow for enough room to mount the engine in front of it in the engine bay. You'd have to look at the difference in length between the original engine and the engine you intend to swap in.

Depends

Which AWD car is it?

And which engine?

You can swap anything in to anything. It's just a matter of cost and complexity. The answer probably depends on whether they are from the same manufacturer, if that engine, or engine family, was available in that car and whether the transmission will bolt up correctly. It's easy to take the small block from an old RWD Chevy truck and put it in an old 4x4 Chevy truck for those reasons.
