POWER: 2013 Ford Falcon BOSS 335 (Australia)
"Mini"truck: Current Aussie Ranger
Classic:
Because Datsun-ness. Rally prestige. British. High-output. Mama. I think that the Ford Capri is pretty cool too.
Focus ST Convertible: Not the right picture but you get it.
What current Non-US Fords should come live in the US?

I want a god damn Fiesta ST 3-door.
And an older Focus ST 3-door.
And Mk1 XR2.

Here's how to get them over here.
Step 1: Pay many monies to have an importer ship them to you.
Step 2: Cry as customs agents seize, then crush your beloved foreign automobile, as they cry, "WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH WHAT WE GOT HERE IN 'MURICA!? NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU???" A few of them may try to collect your tear water, as car enthusiast tears make for great coffee additives.

I prefer the facelifted Mk 2 ST, but yeah.
I'll also nominate the Mk 3 Estate:

Thank you for saying Ford Capri. The Mk I and II came here but not the Mk III like you show in your pic.

Huh, I didn't know it was ever face-lifted. Gimmie face-lifted version then.

Troller T4. Heck, rebadge it as a new Bronco.

Is the XR2 not importable? It meets the year specification.

It's temping to Wranglerheads and FJ-drivers.

The FPV F6 is a better car than the Boss 335.
The 335 will have it off the line, but the F6 pulls harder in the 80-120kph range. right where you want it for overtaking.
If I was to ever buy one I'd get the G6E Turbo. Same drivetrain as the F6 from factory, just a little detuned (415hp down to 362hp). Really easy to bring the power back up for a really comfortable sleeper.

Hmm interesting. So this?
Also. Look at it's lights? OK? Now look at these guy's eyes.

I think Kinja ate your F6 picture, because that guys facepaint is like all the FPV front ends.
The wheels, bonnet bulge, badges and vinyl are the only cosmetic differences between a Boss 335 and an F6

Oh right, it's early 80s. Now it's just a matter of importing one...

Is it so much to ask for the ST Wagon?!?!?
![]() 07/10/2014 at 19:40 |

I'd have to find one in LHD. I could't deal with driving on the wrong side.

I think that'd be half the fun of importing a car, driving on the wrong side. Plus extra space between you and people on the other side of the road.

is this from personal experience?

That'll be difficult for most of these, I'm afraid. Britain has always been the biggest market for European fast Fords.

I prefer the SportKa, personally. I'm actually considering one for my next car, but their susceptibility to rust gives me pause.

Good list, though I'd much rather a Mk 1 SportKa, personally. They've shit interiors, but are quite a bit better to drive—and, to my eye, nicer to look at, too.
![]() 07/10/2014 at 23:24 |

That could be problematic. Also, if Wheeler Dealers is correct, finding one without rust should be just as difficult.
![]() 07/10/2014 at 23:35 |

All but impossible, as a matter of fact. Ford had a pretty big rust problem right up until the early 2000s. Now, most people interested in XR2s have a sentimental attachment of some sort, and so wouldn't be willing to consider alternatives, but on the off chance some are... I'd recommend they check out an early 205 GTi. They're widely seen as one of the best - if not, indeed, the best - hot hatches in history, and it's quite a bit easier to find one in decent shape than it is an XR2; they sold extremely well, and Peugeot were very much ahead of the curve when it came to rust-proofing. Oh, and there are a lot more LHD examples floating around.

If I had the money I would have already imported one of these with the 1.9.

If I weren't nineteen and living in a country where hot hatch ownership in one's teens is... Not encouraged, I'd have one. A year or so more, though, and I should be able to insure one for less than it costs to buy the car. I just hope they don't appreciate too much in the meantime.

I'm currently 19 as well, and it'll be a while before I can justify spending at the very least $10k(U.S.) on a 25 year old economy car.
![]() 07/11/2014 at 00:43 |
|
I wouldn't call a 205 GTi an 'economy car' - though, come to think of it, we don't really use the phrase 'economy car' here, and I can't think of an equivalent - but I'm not in a position to buy one, either.
![]() 07/11/2014 at 00:54 |

Well, isn't the idea of a hot hatch a sporty version of a budget car?
![]() 07/11/2014 at 01:00 |
|
Sort of. I wouldn't call, say, a modern VW Golf a 'budget' car, by any means, and yet there's still a Golf GTI and R—which are even less 'budget'. The 205, in more pedestrian guise, was certainly a budget car—but I think its a stretch to extend that label to the GTi. Anyone looking for something cheap and practical would be a fool to buy one, after all.
![]() 07/11/2014 at 01:18 |

A base Golf in the U.S. would be considered a budget car.

Or just do what I want to do. Move to Germany.
