I have a friend who bought a 1999 NB Miata 2 years ago. It was a pretty decent one too, relatively low mileage and he got it for a good price. 5 days after signing the paperwork the apartment complex we both lived in got hit with hail. My car took a beating, but it was new so it survived. $8600 of damage covered by insurance, repaired in about 3 weeks. The Miata wasn't so lucky. It was totaled.
2 years later the same friend finally got up the courage to get another Miata, this time a really nice NC. He has a garage now, and the Miata doesn't come out if there's any hint of bad weather. I don't blame him

wow that's terrible. Luckily they were pea sized hail balls today.
In the instance where your car gets a nice dimpling how do they go about fixing it?

I can't wait to have a two car garage so I don't have to worry about either of our cars during storms. Right now, we have a one car detached garage. So, it's a big decision as to which car to leave out in the storm.

Leave out whichever one is newer. The more it's worth the more likely your insurance will fix it.

We usually do. That would be my wife's car, the 2013 CX-5. Mine's a 2008 Mazda3.
