So I guess that means I should make my first real post.
Let me start by introducing myslef I am Brian a kid from Long Beach. I drive a Lexus is300, and I am very grateful for it. It may only have two pedals, but she is fun to drive, but then again all I have to compare it to is my dad's prius and my mom's suv.
Let me leave you with some pictures of it through the years:
Yes, it was Plastidipped.
Here is what she looks like now.
So tell me oppo do you guys have any tips for a some mods I could do on a college budget?

Glad to see you made the right choice and removed the plastidip. As far as mods on a college budget... Is it a manuel? What are we working with here?

I used to have an 02 IS. You can get a pretty cheap air intake pipe that just replaces the pipe itself, not the filter, that most tests showed a decent HP gain. Pipe was around $60 back in the day. I didn't notice a power difference myself (I never have with any intake), but it gave the car a bit more growl!
Putting decent tires on the car will make the biggest performance difference for the $$. You should be able to get a set of Michelin Super Sports for $600-700 installed or so in the OEM size at Costco or one of the other big retailers!

Make it loud. Glasspack or straight pipe and remove the cats. Easy / Cheap. Cold air intakes are bogus, but you can swap the filter box for an open-style cone if you want some intake noise.
For appearance, you could put a dual red pinstripe down the side so it will look good against the black and you can paint your calipers red. Do not cover it in a billion stickers like the cars I see around campus.

Welcome aboard!
And don't feel bad, my first car, and still my only car, is a '08 PT Cruiser. It doesn't matter what you drive, as long as you can enjoy it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, :).

Welcome :] i am a former Lexus Master tech. One time an IS came in with a Injen intake and Injen exhaust. The sound was pure and it did have a little more pep in it's step. Not much but enough to notice in the seat. I would go with an Injen intake only because I-6 induction noise!!!

Welcome to the party...and expect some weirdness at times. I would also vote for upgrading to better tires. That is my first goal for my Miata. I am also on a college budget.

You luck bastard. Mine is an automatic with an open diff. haha
I plan on doing some "OEM plus" mods. Like eiabch springs, painting the headlight housing black, etc.

I have memories of my Grandpa's candy apple red Pt cruiser with custom pin striping. It was cool in my eyes.

I agree with you on the stickers, but the oppo one seemed mandatory. You remind me of my uncle always trying to convince me to pin strip my car.

that what I'm doing.
Painted headlights with plastidip, painted the corners dark Amber, and my high beams yellow.

It may not be the best car, but I like it. Plus I love the retro look, it's what got me interested in it. And the cars now-a-days look the same, I like personality, :).
