Even with a tail wind I could never get better than 28mpg highway, and this is highway with a fair bit of city driving. I did an oil change and put on a high-flow exhaust, so that could have helped, but I sure didn't expect *this*

It's true. those barges really sip fuel like an Englishmen his tea. I would get 30 mpg avg. on my road trips with mine.

mah car says that i have like 80 miles to empty, but the gas needle is marking like almost red Empty. And the needle is not wrong. Since i tuned the computer this has been happening

I've gone a good 80 miles after my 'low fuel warning' has dinged at me. My tank isn't actually 'empty' until the needle is far below the red warning area.

Hmm, maybe my car isnt failing after all, but im not willing to find out driving with an almost empty tank.

When I had my GTP, I routinely touched 30mpg. I had a tuned PCM and a cat back, and did not drive it nicely. Blew one 4T65e-HD without trying and was well on my way to blowing up the second. That's one thing about it that I miss when compared to my GTO. I could cruise all day long at 80, and the tach would barely be above 1500. The GTO is up around 2500 at 70. I know, #musclecarproblems, but still. I'd think GM would have been able to get that right.

Does the 4T65e-HD have different gearing than the non-HD version? Because at 65mph my tach is at 1700 or so.

And yeah, a tune and a supercharged engine means no more hard launches unless you wanna risk grenading your tranny :(

Did the tune appreciably change the behavior of the transmission? I'm assuming you got it from ZZPerformance and they list 'increase transmission line pressure' and changing things like torque converter lockout and shift tables, but I'm not sure how that changes the car. Also removed the 'abuse limiter' or something like that which is basically undefeatable traction control to keep the transmission from getting damaged during hard launches.

A better breathing engine will often get you more power and better fuel economy... I've experienced that on some cars I owned in the past as well.

The only down side is a little more noise.

Nosie is the main reason I did it. I like noise. I've also noticed less lag in 2nd gear under heavy acceleration. Used to be a huge pause when the car grabs 2nd and that is now gone.

We got an average of 37 mixed in our '05 Impala when we had it. It was the 3.4 though.

I don't know, I used to get 30+ in my old '98 LeSabre with the NA 3800. I did a lot of highway driving, though (I used it as a courier vehicle).

For me the computers that show fuel economy are always giving too good results. My CLK gives me constantly 1l/100 km less then I consume in reality. I have an avarage of 13/100, but often it gives 12/100. When going out of city the gap becomes even bigger, I have seen around 5.5/100 when in reality is more like 8/100. I always make my calculations based on kilometers driven, when it said it is empty, the amount needed for full when at the gas station and maths. And the car is also rather modern 06 280 with a manual, but i just don't trust the computer.

It was ZZP. I felt the shifts get way firmer. It actually wanted to shift as opposed to lazily kind of falling into gear. I think the only difference between the HD and non-HD is there are hardened parts in the diff. I don't think there are gear ratio changes. I could be wrong. The Park Ave does have a couple hundred pounds on the Grand Prix, so maybe that's where the RPM discrepancy comes from.
