so I'm riding on the ol' pushie and some kind motorist yells "HEY WHY DON'T YOU GET A CAR FAT ASS!!!"
It's a fairly unsuccessful taunt. I mean, I have a car, and I'm well aware of the weight issue, why else would I be on a bike? So I laughed, which may have enraged the attempted insulter

Ugh, fuck that guy. And to paraphrase Churchill, you can lose the weight, but that guy will always be an asshole.

Laughing at insults is the greatest passive-aggressive move ever. It usually just infuriates the perpetrator because you're not getting upset at them. I keep trying to tell my kids to ignore or laugh at each other when one gets ugly. It's sad that so many adults can never mature beyond being a 6-year-old.
Stay on the bike. I ride 10 miles a day, and I have to get up at 6:00 am to do it before my wife goes to work. If you're riding for fitness, check out this app . I think it's still free. It's a great motivator, and it keeps track of all your workouts, routes, and mileage.

Spealized M2 with a two cog front chainring? That's an oddly speced bike, even for the early '90s.

I will be purchasing this bad boy soon.
Trek 1.1. My first real deal road bike.
I used to be an avid rider. Road some off road, some on. MTB and hybrids and even owned a BMX for a short time. Went on long rides. It was great. But then I stopped. Bikes were sold. Things happened. Now my buddies (who I used to ride with, and now they too have gotten back into riding) have convinced me to get a bike. I need to drop some weight, so hopefully this will help.
But honestly I can not wait to be alone, on my bike, riding.

I also used to be an avid rider, and thin, but then I broke my back whilst avidly riding :)

I just let out an audible "Oh man!" in my office.
I kind of did something like that, but apparently landed better since I did not break my back. I flipped over the front of my bike, did a summersault, jumped up and caught my bike as it rolled next to me. About 15 seconds after that, both of my calves cramped up and I dropped to the ground. My buddy that was riding with me said it would have been awesome if I would have caught my bike, jumped back on, and then kept riding. I really miss riding off road.

yeah, really all the damage happened off screen. I didn't tuck and roll as nicely as one would hope, and sort of landed on my head then flopped onto my back like a limp fish.

All the wrecks on my bike I have had, I am super lucky they were never worse than bruises and scrapes.

Funny thing is that person may be a Jalop/Oppo poster, given the overall negative reaction toward cyclists on here.....
All I can say is carry a U-lock and take out their side mirror if they get too close.
