Since I broke my back I have been driving my wife's Kia Soul and she has been driving the Taurus. She calls me last night from the gas station saying the Bullmobile will not start. I pack up the kids and go to look at the car.
Turn the key.
Click.
Then the distinct sound of nothing else happening under the hood. Yup that'll be the starter. So we call AAA, which is the best $50 I've ever spent and I try to mess around with the car while we wait. I cleaned the battery terminals and smacked the starter with a hammer. Then I had my wife hit it with a hammer.
Eventually the wrecker shows up. They try to jump start my car. Nope. Then they start smacking the starter with a breaker bar and a sledge.
Turn the key.
Screech!
Then the distinct sound of nothing else happening under the hood. My wife then says to me, "Oh, so hitting it is like a legit thing to do?" She thought that I was just banging on it to see if banging on it would work. So, we paid the tow truck $24 to tow it to a shop I trust and they're going to look at it today.
If I wasn't in the brace I would have had them tow it home and just swap it myself.

This is why she should have been running errands with Rat-L-Trap.

Yeah, better to take it easy. Why does hitting a starter with a hammer work?

Yeah, I better hurry up and put it back together!

The solenoids get stuck and banging will sometimes release them so you can get ti started.

If I were anywhere even close to Maine I'd help out. :(
Plus, I need a Megasquirt test victim.
