Isn't that just the worst feeling ever. My first car had aftermarket fog lamps that I installed and even though I put a light up red toggle switch on for them I still left them on all the time. Auto headlights are really one of the few new cars features I reeeeally like, for this reason exact reason.

Yeah, the warning buzzer doesn't work on the GTI, so this isn't the first time I've forgotten, but it is the first time it's gone dead from it.

That explains it. I have an '01 Golf, and I didn't think the headlights stayed on when the engine is turned off. But my buzzer still works, so I haven't really paid attention.

You don't have auto headlights? My wife's 28 year old Toyota had them. They would turn off as soon as you opened the driver's door.

the headlights turn off, but the side markers and tail lights stay on as parking lights. I think it's a European thing, but don't quote me on that.
