You can find more information for an event near you !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or you can check out SEMA's video below and have a pretty lady explain it to you.

If my '67 beetle counts, I'll drive it to work, and then go do donuts or something.

Fridays are pretty much always "take my classic to work day," weather permitting. Traffic is lighter, and many of the VIPs take the day off in the summer or leave at lunch, so I can snag a primo spot.

This Friday will be no exception!

I'm curious as to what makes it a "collector" car. Is it that some rich asshole owns it and registers it but never drives the damn thing? Or is it that someone overpaid for it by a few million?

It counts if you treat it like a collector car. Doing donuts typically precludes a car from this group, but I say get out there anyway.

For me, it's the kind of car you have a collection of. Y'know, like several of them in the back 40 in case you need parts.

I'm actually going to write about that in the next few weeks. The term "collector car" is mostly defined by how the car is maintained and used. A very inexpensive car can be a collector car, if its owner is actually trying to preserve the car. Heacock Classic actually encourages collectors to drive their cars for "pleasure use." The car has to be garage kept, in good condition, and can't be a daily driver.

I wouldn't say all car collectors are rich assholes. I can at least testify that I'm not rich.

My Wildcat usually comes out on nice weekends and occasionally on a weekday if the weather is agreeable and I can stomach spending $25.00 on gas for a single days commute to and from work. Unfortunately, I think my starter is about to go, so I will be sticking close to home until I can replace it.

Holy Cow, and I thought I was the only one that did that, (judging by the bland collection of drivers in the parking lot). I used to drive my 928S before it broke on me, now I drive a 911 Carrera 4 or a pretty little MGB LE.

YAY!!! I was recently told that my classic is "just a car" Needless to say I was a little upset-until you have built something from the ground up or appreciate the beauty or rareness of a car, you need to go away. I would rather hang out with folks that own classics, no matter what they are, and the people who drive them than anyone who doesn't appreciate the beauty of these magnificent machines!

71 dodge charger w superbird wing :)

as my bumper sticker suggests-Resistance is Futile!

Good for you!! I say a collector is anyone who loves a car and drives it around so other people can see and enjoy it-especially the owner. They don't have to sit in a garage all year round. If you maintain it, it should quailify

dount on, my friend!

Well, in some ways, it is correct to say that your 71 Charger with a wing on it, isn't a classic car. The Classic Car Club of America has a definitive list of what can be considered a "classic car." However, most states consider any car over 20 years old to be a classic. It's a terribly ambiguous term.

I agree with you, you drive a classic, however, folks that have been tasked to define this term would roundly reject your car as a classic. It could be called a "collector car" if it's maintained and used like a collector car, but this is all stuff for a future post of mine. I intend to fully disambiguate terms like "classic," "exotic," and "antique" in the next few months.

Assuming it isn't a bazillion degrees out like it was all of last week, I'll be driving the truck to work. And after work is my favorite car show of the year at the Steelyard in Providence .

Ann Arbor's Rolling Sculpture show is this Friday. Entry is open to anything, and you'll see some very unusual cars there. It's free for spectators, and the downtown A2 atmosphere makes it a lot of fun.

Yep, that too. Plus there's a weekly Friday night cruise night that's right on my way home which I can stop at from time to time.

If you are or know someone involved with organizing that event, it can be registered with SEMA and they'll promote it as a National Collector Car Appreciation Day event on their website . You can sign up here .

I'll be (with some luck and dirty knuckles) at Hemmings Motor News in a 1950 Hudson Commodore. My father wants to bring one of his cars, but none are ready ('32 Buick sheared an axle, '61 Imperial has no brakes, etc.).
