!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Saw this on the Craiggers the other day at $2500 and considered throwing him a lowball offer of $1000. He already dropped the price $700 down to $1800 which makes me think something may be seriously wrong with it. Here's the ad:
Volvo v70r AWD
Automatic transmission
Good:
Fresh Oil change
New rear brake pads/rotors
Newer turbo- 10k miles
Rebuilt head- 10k miles
New timing belt/water pump/tensioners/etc
Good tires
Bad:
Interior is dirty/ was used to haul
Sunroof doesn't work
Few dings and dents
Needs rear ABS sensors
Needs Radio
So what say you, Oppo? Nice Price or Crack Pipe?

put it into reverse and drive it about 25 feet. If you hear a clunk from the rear end all of your diff carrier bushings are screwed. I cant see the ad or pics to help you out more on this. I paid $500 for my 70R AWD that was a beast till my ex ran it out of oil and thought the light could be ignored.

unfortunately it will need a new factory radio. Volvo car network will have a permanent communication error that will not aloow certain softwares to download like ECC or adding a new key. Also, I sure hope it's a ABS (wheels speed) sensor of the common ABS controller. $1200 for that and around $600 for the radio/ AUM. Both will softwares and labor. A sunroof and radio being bad could be tied to the vehicles Siren. Yes, sometimes cars come in with radio and especially sunroof inof issues and the cause is the car's alarm siren. Super common Volvo issue because CAN.

Is there some hope of finding these parts used if you are patient, if that's the case this may be an affordable way to get the V70R? Or would you say this is crack pipe?

car: "your oil is out"
response: "lolz okaaaay, whateves"
Would the diff carrier bushings being screwed stop you from buying or would it be ammunition toward paying less for it?

ha that was pretty much it.
It wouldnt stop me, but I certainly wouldnt spend over a grand on a beater that had the issue. About a grand to have done for you or a good 5 hours of your own labor if you know what you are doing. The cars just arent worth that much. You can get a pretty pristine one in the rare Saffron color for 4 grand all day

well, if you can find the parts used then heck yes! Though, they made around 15 radios for that car, 4 different sirens, and 3 different abs controlers. You can fond parts online one you confirm the part numbers. They will still need a sofeware reload or upgrade. Most Vovlo, Mercedes, and others, one can't just install parts without software. It could be just a siren knocking the sunroof and radio. Cars come in all the time with those exact 2 complaints and the faulty siren is the cause. Volvo networks are odd like that. Ch3ap fix though. If that is the item causing the issue, the NP all day! V70R's are swedish M3's in the fact that they have their specific things that owners know how to baby. Forums will further inform you. Don't get scared off what you read, it just the things to keep in mind.

From having shopped for $1k cars before, I've found, that after repairs, you may as well spend $3-4k and get a better example, because the labor/parts you'll need will cost you somewhere around that difference anyway.

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. Even though I likely won't get a V70R at any point, haha. I wouldn't rule it out though, who knows what the future holds.

Yes, I've worked on a few beaters like that before but I would simply add this to my garage as a project/grocery getter and not my main means of transportation

yeah now I see the interior all banged up, $1000 or walk, if it runs well. Let me know if you need any more info. ABS sensors could be frozen in place, sunroof might be a simple fix, I can guarantee the rear wiper probably doesnt work (inspection issue in some states). Mine was black too!

I just updated the post with the ad at the top. Are there any more issues you might see with this particular example? Thanks for your expertise!

The cheapest car I ever bought was 600 bucks. Within the next month I spent another 1300 dollars on it.

the things that worry me have already been attended to. It's a fine budget hero car. It's high mileage for sure and many parts on this have been going obsolete at the dealer level. Rubber suspension components wear pretty quickly. The oil trap box is a common issue that is very VERY important item to keep an eye on. Hopefully that was replaced recently. But all in all for the price, it's a NP :]

What I'd like is a Mercedes 2-door convertible, with a V8 or bigger.
