I'm looking into buying a new muffler for my car, since the one that came with my car when I bought it (apexi N1) is A) Incredibly loud, and B) sounds like absolute shit. I've been trying to find videos of cars with the same engine (SR20DE) with anything other than a fart can to see what sounds good, but apparently none such exist. So as with all of my other car problems, I turn to you guys to give me suggestions on what I should buy. I've been considering just getting an OEM muffler, and also looking at Bosal mufflers. Do any of you guys have experience with SR20s with stock mufflers?

The entry-level Dynomax and Cherry Bomb mufflers are probably good bets.

The best muffler is no muffler.

That's pretty much what it sounds like now, and believe me, it's not pretty.

I always associated them with larger engines; do you have any experience with either of those brands on a 4 cylinder?

Then get a catback system.

I found a clip of a Dynomax exhaust system made for the EK Civic. Best sounding Honda ever.

Sometimes you can find clips of them on YouTube. It really does help!

Here are a couple clips relevant to your engine, or at least close. A thread about the Dynomax VT on the SR20 Forum

This helps a ton! The Dynomax VT sounds great, I'll definitely be checking it out!

I have a V6, but it is equally loud in straight pipe form.

I run a Dynomax super turbo muffler.

I
put a basic cheapo Thrush glasspack on my 240sx with the ka24de, and it turned out sounding thusly:

That's the sound I'm going for, not sure how much different it would be on a SR20DE though

Hell it can't be that loud. Throw on some headers and call it good!

But on a serious note, could go Magnaflow if you wanted something quieter.

I was actually surprised at how loud it is haha

i know someone with pretty much the same car and exhaust, I share your surprise. Maybe try looking for something with a split to dual exits. Think there are a few people running like dual 2" N1's and such. Sounds different that's for sure

Unsure. But for throaty roar instead of can-full-o-bees, glasspacks seem to be the best bet.

A cheap old glasspack should satisfy your wants. Get a longer one to keep it quiet if you think it is too loud now.
