IMO what he did was on par with Grosjean at Spa in 2012. You can't run off track wide and keep your foot in it and just rejoin like that.
Als I think even without the gearbox failure the winner is the same. Winner would have 1 stopped.

He had plenty of room, he came in off the racing line.
He wouldn't have seen the rain ditch from his seating angle.

I'm with you. He wasn't a danger until his suspension broke (assuming it did.. If it didn't then the ditch itself threw him out of control)
Circuits with these wide open tarmac runoffs promote this kind of WOT track entry.

Frim the last angle I saw he aimed for the on run section and just ran out of space. He seemed to have turning issues before. Not sure if the tyres were just too cold or he leftitaloneheknowswhathesdoing.

Agree completely. Every track with paved runoff has multiple occasions of drivers running wide and staying in it. It promotes all sorts of other behavior as well, like purposely running drivers off the racing surface.
