Now just spray it with super cheap paint and clear coat.

Roll on textured black bed liner is the plan

I did the rockers on my Trans Am, turned out pretty well for not welding in any new metal. If there are any holes larger than your pinky finger, fiberglass them first and use polyester finishing putty over that. Also, instead of using bondo, I like Evercoat Gold. The stuff is so much easier to sand and dries in like 5 minutes. It's more expensive but totally worth it.

I want something permanent that will hide my work (I'm not putting nearly as much care into this as I put into my Trans Am). Bed liner is perfect for this job.

ill see if i can find evercoat gold, thanks for the tip. I already did fiberglass, just need to fill it in better now. Unibody frame, so i couldnt do a very clean job. Better than nothing though.

my sister had a can of bondo already, but i havent even opened it yet.

We just got the replacement bits and did both sides. The spray paint turned out ok for the time being. Its not perfect but the car is so low you don't really notice it.

Looks good Gimi! What kind of car is that? It looks like a Datsun

It's about $15 for a quart. I used two quarts on my entire Trans Am. My Trans am is a unibody too and I didn't want to weld so patching was my only option.

ah, for my neon, i just cant reach behind or into the rocker. Im limited to what i can reach from outside.

ill see what i can do, just trying to cover the hole at this point.

Well before you cover the hole completely, use some spray or naval jelly to convert the rust to stable metal. Then take spray paint and shoot paint in the hole trying to cover any of the internally rusted areas. That should at least help slow the rust down some.

oh yeah, thats all been done. I have it covered with duct tape right now, but i want to change that. If i had welding gear, i would have done more work, but this car is enough of a money pit at this point. Once the bodywork is finished on the wagon, this car is going.

Bandit I've meant to ask is your T/A an automatic and if so do you have any plans to do a tranny swap with it?

When I bought it it had a th350 installed. I looked at doing a manual swap because I really want a manual, but I didn't have the funds to buy the parts (I'm a high schooler who doesn't make all that much). Instead, I bought a 700r4 out of a 1990 Caprice wagon for $75 and installed that. It gives me a peppier 1st gear and a 4th gear overdrive (as opposed to the 3 speed th350) which is nice since I will be using it as my DD when I get it running reliably. One day when I find the parts within my budget, a manual will go in.

I feel you on the low funds as a fellow high schooler. Congrats on that 75$ 700r4 that's a steal and an overdriven gear is definitely useful for gas mileage when you drive a V8. I still hope that once the engine is all sorted you'll be able to find the funds for a manual though.

Thanks, it even came with a warranty! If only knew what I was doing when it came to making a proper TV cable bracket. A manual will go in one day, perhaps with the rest of the drivetrain from a 4th gen LS Camaro...

that thing will fly!! Will you be doing custom suspension of some sort as well?

Kinja'd!!! Bandit > catkam623 misses his 944
07/06/2014 at 22:33

Kinja'd!!!0

The next thing on my list (after getting it actually running and decals) is to lower the suspension 1.5 - 2 inches and add subframe connectors. I built my 400 so it's not leaving the engine bay any time soon.

are you going to cut the springs or put in coil overs? Also have you dynoed the 400 yet?

Kinja'd!!! Bandit > catkam623 misses his 944
07/07/2014 at 17:32

Kinja'd!!!0

Idk, haven't thought that far yet. Haven't dyno'd the engine yet because it still doesn't run well enough for me to be confident in driving it on the road (haven't reactivated the insurance either).

Honestly don't know anymore, the temp gauge has never worked since I've owned the car.

old cars always have something I just replaced my powersteering rack but I'm now leaking power steering fluid from something.
