I have the chance to buy a very inexpensive 190e 2.3-16v for around 2,000 dollars. Do yall think a E30 would serve me better as a project/DD/track car? This would be a vehicle I would build up with stock, factory, or period modifications to improve performance. I am usually a Mercedes person but I would be willing to jump ship for one car and get a BMW, I have heard they are great fun. On the other hand, if anyone has any more German car recommendations I would love to hear them.
Non-German is welcome aswell...
I was also thinking about a Porsche 928, not as practical though.
Before someone asks what car is better, the 16v or the M3... It's the 16v, because fanboy.

I'd go with the 190e. I love the look of them, and they don't seem to be paraded around as much.

e30s are too overvalued so you're getting a much better value with the merc plus it's more unique

You won't get a newer e30 worth driving for under $3-4k. Anything less will be a flogged out hole in the pavement to toss money into. The older ones are ugly IMO.
I'd look into the Miata as well. As much as they are talked up here, if your passion is a hairpin filled backroad, there isn't much better at that pricepoint.

I'd look into the e28 BMW 5 series, and e36 3 series as well. They are both great german saloons with lots of aftermarket. More so on the e36, but the e28 still has plenty of support.

I feel like it would be stupid not to buy that cossie for that amount of money. Unless it's completely clapped out.

Is there something like an 'inexpensive homologation' special?

I really want to. Here is the run down.
No driver seat
No back seat
Rear diff is oout
Running gear good
Fuel injection problems
Bad paint
Good body
No title
No ignition cylinder
I would like to pay 1500 for it.

Damn. I think 1500 is fair, if not a bit high. And the rear diff is half the fun. Definitely track car though.

He wants 2k right now for the entire car as it is. I wont sell at that price. Maybe less that 1500 but he probably wouldnt take it. If I had actual space for a project car right now I would take it.
