I was at COTA last night for the Austin Symphony concert and the 4th of July fireworks. And, I met Clown Shoe Pilot, who works out there. News reports this morning said that some people waited 2 hours to get out of COTA after the event, but we got lucky and escaped after only about 30 minutes. Is the parking that bad during the F1 race? I haven't been yet.

That thing looks like it has some potential with a couple modifications and/or a cart to become a pretty sweet slide.

They could do a launching start for the race cars.

Absolutely. As it comes down, it spreads out, curves back up and covers the stage. It would make an awesome slide.

It took us 15 minutes or so, but I did pull a bullshit "It's OK, I work here" move to take a path other than what the parking attendants were trying to enforce.

What was really interesting was all the traffic that was still COMING IN so late. We bailed the concert at the start of the western movie music compilation and went up on the roof at the turn 1 end of the pit building so we'd have the best seats for the fireworks. We also had an excellent view of FM812 and there were cars all the way back to 130 even as the fireworks started.

id be all for an extreme reaching series. Physics and gravity be damned, we don't need your crap here. I want loop-de-loops jumps and barrel rolls. +1 if it's on the moon. Even better mars.

We got back to the Support Paddock after the fireworks, and the backlog of traffic out of the SP was turning to the left, back towards COTA Blvd. Then, a security guy allowed people to take a right out of the SP, back toward the tunnel under the S/F straight. There, we made the fortunate decision to head out toward the Piland Triangle, rather than the main entrance. Once we hit FM 812, there was an APD officer directing us straight across 812 and down Burkland Farms Rd. Then it was a right turn and we were at TX 130. 130 was fine until the exit to 71. I think we were very fortunate.

There was a COTA parking lot attendant at the main lot, where we made our fortuitous decision to go out the back way, who was doing a GREAT job directing traffic and emptying out the lot. Kudos to him.

Yep, Piland Triangle is the winning move. That's how we left as well.
