Seriously easy from 1 to 4. Painful from 4 to 5. Impossible from 5 to 6. You guys ever tried it?

That's a nice shifter.

I didn't, but Sakura did and I was with her. She smoothly took me through all the gears but it got messy after the last gearchange. She was cool with it though.

Drove from Pensacola to Houston clutchless shifting the whole way. Not by choice...hydraulics were busted. No fun in traffic.

Ok so i have 1 question, if you throw fast shifts from 1st to second, holding it from the top, will that break? Or its a durable replica of a lightbulb

It's pretty easy from 1-6 on my Axela. You just have to know /really/ well what your revs are in each gear.

I've not tried to much with my Z but what I have tried, it's pretty easy, having a car that revs fast is very useful for clutchless downshifting, I havn't tried at all in my Beetle..it's transmission is stupid enough even with the clutch..UPS truck 2nd (the gear most UPS drivers start in) to 3rd is pretty easy

I found both equal from 1 to 4. The rest is another story...

I could all the time in my Talon. Never really tried in anything else.

I gotta shift at around 1500 or wait that it drops there. It's impossible from 5 to 6 since the rpm is high.

Man, diesel trucks are much more easier to shift clutchless. I wonder why.

Stupidest shifter ever. And looks uncomfortable as shit. And I do not understand shit of this post and of most of the replies, but I think you cannot understand everything, when you're not 'merican.

Up shifting is just a matter of waiting for the engine revs to drop enough to match the lower speed of the next gear. Those higher gears are further apart in gearing, so they should just require a longer wait, bigger drop in revs before the gear will slip in.

Downshifting without the clutch requires a blip of the throttle to bring the revs up to match the gear speed. The blip has to be just right. Too much or too little and the gears won't mesh (and grind like fuck).

Have you tried going down clutchless yet?

I drove rig for a while and shifted without the clutch, both ways, pretty much all of the time. Of course the lower revving of a big diesel makes it easier to get the revs right.

downshifting in a 350Z is pretty easy without a clutch :) I've only tried up shifting 2nd-3rd in my diesel UPS truck so far

I see absolutely no point of clutchless shifting except when something fails, you'll kill your transmission faster doing that stuff. Also, if that bulb breaks, your car is gonna become a hazmat site (god damn mercury) I suggest switching to a cheapy LED bulb from ebay.

From 4 to 1 it was easy. The rest was hard. I drive rigs regularly and it's so easy to shift and downshift to any gear clutchless. I do the throttle blip like you explained. Maybe I need more practice. But I hate the grinding...

I had to clutchless shift on my 93XJ for a bit for some reason, I fixed it thought later. Starting out in gear then rev matching, not to hard with a 4.0 & AX15, but the metro doesn't like it at all. I tried and the shift points are at such low mph & rpm its ridiculous. Took some learning on XJ, Metro, next to imposubu, but could be done if needed, lots of syncro wear.

On bikes? You can do this on bikes? I never knew (I don't know how shifting on a bike works)

Kinja'd!!! MountainCommand > RotaryLover

Kinja'd!!!1

Yep. For example the new bmw s1000rr has a quick shift option that allows clutchless shifting.

This is a good bit where the guy uses the clutchless shifting to hold on to his happy meal.

Shifting on a bike works the same way, clutch>engage gear>let out clutch>repeat. You can skip the clutching part and jam it into 2nd gear and stuff, but odds are you will cause some extra wear and tear.
