I might be buying this. The night crowd really beat me up about it but I still think I'm going to go for it. I know it has a salvage title and it's been in an accident I just want to know more.

3 crashes and some flood damage.

I know. Number 7 out of 500. Trans will be livable for a while and the top can be patched or just kept in the garage. I don't need a carpet either (it's not in the car according to the owner in an email).
My local scrap yard already quoted me at $200 for a trans out of their 900. I'm hoping it's just a syncro or a clutch. I don't mind double clutching for the syncro or replacing a clutch.
I think a clay bar and some seat covers will take me a long way.

Transmission R&R on a 900 is not an easy task, though I cannot not condone purchasing a 900.

Judging by the haphazard placement of the badges on the back, I'd venture to say it was rear-ended once.

Thank you.
Could leaking soft top count as flood damage? I doubt it.
But 3 crashes could work in my favor. I could get the price lower, if it's still straight.
And cant a crash be something minor? Like a claim was filed about a scrape or something?
(I'm trying to be optimistic)

Tops are cheap for these. Finding the factory seats for this specific variant will be tough as they were the camel beige with the black piping - only available on the commemorative edition. $200 isn't bad for a gearbox, but you'll spend a weekend pulling the entire drivetrain out to replace it. If it is just a clutch, that's an afternoon for those who have never done it before. Clay and some love from a Porter-Cable will bring lack some of that early-90s luster in no time.

Is it just hard to get to or actually just too hard?

If I end up buying I plan on getting it running and not gross (moldy seats now). I would love to restore one (came with a tan top originally) and if I had this one I would hold onto it until I have the time and money to do it right. But for now just have a cool convertible.

But the crash part is right. It's had at least 2.

I looked at the rear picture next to a good 900 and it doesn't look off by too much. Might just be the camera angle.

Badges are too close to the bottom of the trunk lid overall. SAAB logotype is too close to the SAAB-SCANIA roundel. 900 and Turbo are not properly spaced. 16V badge is too far to the left.

The transmission is integral with the oil pan. Clutch is on the back of the engine (which is in the front relative to the car), so that can be done in an hour by a trained tech. The transmission/pan assembly requires a complete removal of the powertrain, which books out around 15 hours for the R+R.

The easiest way is to bring it out from the top, still attached to the block. You have to remove all accessories, unplug all the wiring (obvs) and relocate the driveshafts. Bentley is your best friend and will be an invaluable resource.
On the plus side, it'll give you the opportunity to make the engine bay SHINE
