Exhaust sounds are very important to some, when it comes to liking cars, everyone's got their own taste in car sounds, so here are my top 10 personal favorites!
Only one rule was given: The cars can have aftermarket exhausts.
10. Ford Focus ST w/FRPP Exhaust
With this $800-1000 exhaust made by Borla and sold by Ford, it turns your FoST into a much more aggressive-sounding and gurgling hot hatch! Ask me how I know!(Shameless plug for clip from K-Roll):
9. Subaru Legacy 3.6R w/Magnaflow CBE
I would buy a Legacy just for the Boxer-6 and drop an exhaust as soon as I could. The only reason it's this high up, is because, well, if you know me then insert the obvious "That ain't no Porsche" here.
8. Mini Cooper S w/Downpipe and Cat-Delete
I never thought that the words "MINI" and "aggressive" would ever be put into any logical sentence by me, and then I heard this:
7. Aston Martin V12 Vantage w/BBi Exhaust
Finally! An exotic on the list, you might be thinking. Even though this sounds mean as hell and full of ze v12 goodness, I think there's better:
6. Fiat 500 Abarth
Damn does this thing sound nice as hell! And in such a small package! Ford, why couldn't you do this from the factory with the FoST and FiST? You could have saved me $800... :P
5. Datsun 240z
Straight-6 HRRRRRRGGGNNN TIME!!
4. Lamborghini Aventador LP720-4 50 Aniversario
That is one long as hell name just to get a sexy exhaust. Best sounding V12 IMO.
3. Dodge Challenger Hellcat
I couldn't not leave this one out. Supercharged Hemi; so GOOD!! Best sounding 'Murican car this year so far!
2. Novitec Rosso Ferrari 458 Italia
Wait....That doesn't sound like a V8! Not sure what it is about this crazy sound it makes, but dammit is it just right!
1. Porsche 911(All generations)
I'm ze PorscheTamer. I couldn't not make this numero uno on the list! It's simply the only sound that will make me break my neck in excitement as I turn around to see the sexy car that made that sound. Pick your favorite!
Agree or disagree? Let me know what you think and what you'd pick. I'll do another one sometime for just stock exhausts.
P.S. I think this'll be my new thing, something to do to pass the time, stay constructive and have some fun at the same time. Also, I enjoy car discussions so maybe I'll throw in some debates here and there.

5 should be 1
6 should be 2
the others don't matter to me.

It's a very good sounding 4 cylinder engine. But top ten EVER? Not even close.

I would like to submit this as a replacement for #9, and possibly move it up higher on the list

This Alfa Romeo.
And the 2.8 Ford Capri. and yes that is a V6.

I couldn't not leave this one out.
That's a double negative. That means you left it out. I'm nitpicking of course. Good list!

Not that infernal racket again.
I love the sound, but at a certain point, it's just loud noise, IMO.

I agree with number one for sure. Lol. I think the LFA should be here somewhere though.

There doesn't seem to be an LFA anywhere on this list...

I made this at 4am. I was too tired to even make the list logical, except for #1. I'll make a new list in which the exhaust has to be stock.

Don't worry. I'll make another list sooner or later.

But just so there's no misunderstanding, there would be no 911, Hellcat, 240z, or the two V12s on your list?
What would be on your list?

I'm on mobile now. The next list will be restricted to factory exhausts.

Brian Silvestro

There would be a Hellcat. And a 911, a specific 911. There would be different V12s.

I'm not sure yet. But the 991 GT3 over 8k rpm it's just magical.

For me it's any air cooled from 2-5k rpm. And if you here one with a bypass muffler.....I can't even into. I'm at work.

I love the amount of cheap cars here, makes m thin I can actually afford these amazing sounding engines. But I will go along and add this, as a true VW enthusiast, the VR6 engine to my ears is one of the best in the industry.

Agree with other comments that GM's LS engine should be on the list. Here's a GTO for reference:

Old school V8s with Cherry Bombs or Purple Hornies didn't make the list?
Straight-piped and cammed 426 hemis are not top 10?

Hahaha! You must be around my age? (16 in the mid 70's) The Cherry Bombs and Thrush glasspack mufflers were the absolute must have in my day. If we would have had the Purple Hornies we would have been crazy about them just for the name alone.

I was born in 1995, but it doesn't take someone who was born in the 50s/60s to appreciate the thumping idle of a V8 ready to roar.
