... because he was talking to a person who isn't there, about music I couldn't hear.
I think I need to get him some more meds, but I'm mainly pissed off that the music he was listening to was apparently really, really good, judging by what he was saying, and I wanted to rock-out too.

age? schizophrenics usually have their first "break" in their mid 20s.

I talk to myself, but I've yet to be able to conjure mental music out of thin air. Ask him his secret; if he doesn't say, konk him on the head and send me the MRI.

I resent that statement.
As do I.

This is why I stopped having roomates as soon as I graduated from college. Screw that.

Did the young one use one of these novel inventions?

Thing is, he's plainly not talking to himself. He's having conversations with someone who's not there. There are gaps for them to respond, then he says something else.
The two of them seem to be listening to something really good, though. Maybe he is. Did you ever hear about Shostakovich and the shrapnel in his brain that made him hear melodies?

if treated, schizophrenics can lead a totally normal life. Makes you wonder about the people you interact with everyday doesn't it?

I think he's psychotic, not schizoid. As far as I can see, he's run out of meds, and doesn't have a doctor here.

No. But my dad had one of those, back in the day. Someone once tried to mug him for it, but he fought them off by using it as a club.

You try living with London property prices :)
Actually, I quite like having people around, most of the time. Always something interesting, although this is more interesting than most...

Carbamazepine, I think.
Sorry, quick google and I was using the words wrong - not my field of expertise. Schizophrenia is a type of psychosis, right?
Wikipedia says Carbamazepine is an anticonvulsant - which I knew because my wife takes it for epilepsy - and also used for bipolar. I don't think he's bipolar.

My Grandpa used to hear Irish music all the time. He was always accusing my parents of leaving radios on.

Maybe just picking it up in his fillings, though. I live so close to a TV transmitter that you sometimes hear wire coathangers talking.
