Can I Please Borrow $1000 To Save This Amazing Find?

Found this today on Craigslist. 2000 Volvo V70R with 130,000 miles for only $2000! I, I need to save this car. It's worth so much more. But, I don't have that much money yet. I need $1000 which I could pay back to save this beast from the hands of someone who would destroy it.

From the looks of it, this is in fact a real V70R. Supposedly everything but the rear wiper works. Interior looks to be in great shape and is clean.

Engine seems a bit dirty but that doesn't scare me too much.

This is my one fear. Thats not a stock bumper. In fact, I don't think it was from a V70R. But even if it was in an accident, $2000 for a real V70R seems like a steal. NPoCP? And who has the $1000 so I can save it (I still work and could pay you back within a few months). Also, you can drive it if you come down to see me or it!

it is a real R for sure. They arent worth as much as you think though. And they are slow as dirt compared to an 850R wagon, coming from someone who has had both. Still a good deal though. That bumper is in fact not from an R. Maybe the PO got sick of having to replace the fogs which always smash up :)

Its really bad isn't it? I love them! I really do! between the 122S, the 740 Turbo, countless 240s, a rough 850 (which I may still buy) and this V70R, I may have a problem.

I'd love to do this btw. Maybe when I hit it rich with my great business plan I will create a Volvo Sanctuary. I'll have Oppo volunteers run it and let people come see and play with the cars on our autocross track, race circuit, and drag strip!

I'm not too concerned with speed here, but yeah I know that stock bumper is so low it catches on everything. I doubt it was crashed but probably just ripped off by a parking curb thing.

But it shouldn't go into the hands of someone who doesn't know what they are doing and end up having it wrapped around a tree or sold for scrap.

This car has a following and should go to someone who knows about Volvos and can appreciate it more.

And I wouldn't say financial incompetence because I have a good amount of money saved up for important uses but around $1300 for spending on something like a car.

It is a cheap beater, but taking out a short-term loan to get it while it's available isn't too daft as long as the loan fees aren't ridiculous. If you're going to have to pay it off week by week, yeah, it's a really dumb thing to do. If you're going to pay it off in one or two lump sums after your next paycheck or two, it's no big deal.

Personally, I wouldn't do it, but the total cost of an overdraft for a few weeks if you have good credit is going to be maybe $50 at most. If you're getting a good deal on the car, that's worth paying.

Looks nice, but the best car buying advice I know is that there's always another car out there. There are always loads of bargains when you have no cash, and seemingly they all vanish when you're actually looking to buy, but something will turn up if you miss this one.

But I'm the same way. I love simple English. Use as few words as possible. But sadly, my English teachers want elevated vocabulary by picking random words out of a thesaurus and to use imagery and figurative language and complicated compound sentences...

They essentially brainwash us into needing to use big words and dumb writing!

I drove a volvo V70R that cheap once. It scared the living shit out of me. The smell of gas was alarming, the smokey smell explained why nothing worked, and the throttle delay was so long I could get out, jump in another car, and take off in that before this thing moves forward. Be VERY VERY WARY.
