The FG-1 variants used to be built here in Akron. Up until about 7 years ago there was an annual air show put on by the Military Aircraft Preservation Society museum (subtitled 'Corsairs Come Home') that would feature at least one, but sometimes more. Sadly, it is no more, due to the cost of holding such shows. I'm glad I made it to one before they ended.

Such a cool plane. And luckily, due to their popularity with collectors, but mainly the air racing community, there are a lot of surviving examples to continue to inspire awe like they did for me as a child (and like they're continuing to do obviously).

Sure, it's always neat to see something like a Lancaster, where they're extremely rare with only one or two airworthy examples, but aircraft like the Corsair, Mustang, etc are almost better because they reach more people. Wish more parents made a priority out of doing things like this with their kids. And I wish airshows were as prevalent and extensive as they were when I was that kids age. Those are some of my happiest memories from childhood.
