A lot of states are divided like that. My state, Washington, is divided between the crunchy granola west side and the nutcase tea bagger east. As you can see from my screen name I live in the east but don't really fit in.

Ann Arbor isn't so much "Communist" as it is a bunch of neo-hippies. Maybe you could call it socialist, but most Ann Arbor natives are far too stoned to care about economics.
