Move over !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , there is a new, better zero emissions onboard generator idea. It's really simple and uses compressed air. First, you take a conductive metal shaft. Then you put a large circular magnet around it. Compressed air is shot onto the magnet forcing it down the shaft generating a current.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

When that happens, the air on the other side is forced out into the atmosphere. By using valves, the operation is switched sending the magnet back to the other side, generating more electricity.

Kinja'd!!!

The magnet and rod are housed in a cylinder with caps on the ends and the air tubes surrounding it.

Kinja'd!!!

The generator wouldn't be silent, but The Fit would emit a quiet "fapt" noise when the air exits. Thus, giving rise to it's name.

As an engineer, I see nothing wrong with this.

Maybe instead of exhausting the air into the atmosphere hook up two Fappers and have one pull a vacuum on the other. It'd probably use less energy to push the magnet since the vacuum is doing half the work pulling it.

Option B would be to use the moving magnet to re-compress a portion of that air with something like a regenerative breaking electric motor doing the rest of the work packing the air molecules back together before they go back into the tank. It'd make the magnet lose some kinetic energy but the way the Fapper is right now you're probably gonna go through a tank of air pretty quickly. This could do some to help with that.

I'd also be interested on whether what is essentially an air engine-powered generator is more or less efficient than just an air motor.

But hey, I'm just an engineering student so there's also a good chance I don't know what I'm talking about.

You couldn't hook two together in series, you wouldn't create a vacuum, you would just have something that couldn't move, because the air has to go somewhere. The Fapper works just like a basic two-way non-return pneumatic piston. For your second question, that couldn't happen as it would take more force to compress the air than the energy that your getting out of the system. It's the same reason why you can't have perpetual motion.

This system is an onboard generator not a primary drive system, so you wouldn't run out that fast. Although gasoline would be more efficient than air, it would pollute.

You could probably have a valve perpendicular to the motion of the magnet to let the air out if one Fapper is pulling a vacuum on the other. If we're gonna allow the magnet to compress the air, I understand it would only be able to compress a small portion, therefore I suggested some electric motor powered by regenerative braking or whatever be used to do the rest of the work.

Also this is a compressed air engine.

People are putting way to much thought into this.

That being said, where does the compressed air come from? Does the driver of the vehicle have to breathe into a tube that goes to an air tank while flapping every time he wants to drive the car?

So you fill it up like tires then? No on board compressor?

No, just like a tank of gas
