Yet all three of the cars at my house are still safe... for now.
I really think some of these are caused by very specific circumstances, but GM is in "cover every aspect of everything" mode and recalling things left and right.
Have a recalled car.

My '96 hasn't been recalled in over a decade!

Here's my guess at what happened:
Barra said 'lets catch everything' and had a taskforce established to go through service records with a fine toothed comb. Anything that seemed to be recurring was applied as a recall. Seriously, one of the recalls today was that the engine block heater chord might become damaged. I'm guessing that a handful of people brought their car in and had it fixed, and the taskforce caught it, checked the engineering, and decided to fix it.
I strongly suspect that if other automakers did the same thing there would be the same number of recalls. I think GM is being unfairly judged based on the amount of recalls.

That's how it's been forever. GM can't please anybody it seems.
