Need information on the Austin area because I may be moving there.
I have a situation and need to hear from the Austin side of the house. The owner of the house we are renting has decided to sell and, with the mountain of delayed repairs that are needed to bring it out of the 90's (like 20-30K), they are not renewing our lease and we have 60 days to move.
Not a huge problem. We found a house nearby in the same school district and it's available and so, no problem. The house is amazing and it's just what we want.
Enter the monkey wrench: Last week I got a call from a recruiter about a position in Austin. Incredible opportunity. They are trying to set up phone screen this week. I've already told them that the timing is kind of ideal - provided they move quickly.
Our plan is to go ahead and get the house here and if we have to move again, we will just be responsible for rent until it's rerented. It's got all new interior, granite countertops, etc. I'm not too worried about it staying on the market long.
What I'd like to know is more about the Austin area. Where are the good schools? What's the vibe like? What to watch out for? If you love Austin, why? If you hate it, why? That sort of stuff.

It's close to COTA, so that's a positive. 6th street is like a cleaner Bourbon street. Oh, and TACO TRUCKS! It's also very liberal and traffic sucks balls.

If you would be working downtown, I would make sure you could come in at 6:30 and leave at 3:00. Otherwise, I would recommend you go and enjoy a nice beer or two and wait for it to settle down.

I had already thought about COTA and that if this comes to pass, I'm going to try and go to the F1 race this year.
