I turned up the pressure on my tires from 34 to 38psi for autox

Holy hell! The cars turn in was so much better and crisper, the rear wanted to slide out more, and it felt great! I wonder if it is too high, maybe if I lower it by 1psi it may be even better. The all seasons still struggle for grip, but autox today was 10x more fun because of the change! Plus my times are becoming faster and faster. By next year I think I will be completely ready for an increase in grip.

I came to read a moderately interesting story, I stayed to see a car running, what I believe, is to Station 5 at RA. (Yes, its the 3rd turn, but it's named because its the 5th flag station.)

Yup, this is right after turn 3. The famous 917/30 going WOT for a bit.

That's not after, its before. Turn 3 (station 5) is the lefthander up the hill to the Corvette Bridge. Looks like you're standing on the Sargento Bridge, just after the exit of 2. (Not to be pedantic...but...its a landmark.)

sorry I thought turn 3 was the right hander before the bridge. But yes it is that bridge.

No way, brah. The stock block can't handle more the 30 psi to the tires. I know you pioneered the tire powered turbo kit, but fah reelz brah, we ain't morons.

Danger to the tire powered manifold!!!

I forget what mine are Summer tires are at. I think i might bump them up. I know they're at the recommended psi though. 34 maybe

Yeah that's where mine are at. They have soft sidewalls, so if yours are harder you may not have too.

You might not even be close to what you need to run. When I ran my Impala SS on street tires, the fronts wanted to be more in the 55-60 psi range. Granted, that is a 4400# car running on 255/50-17.

Just keep experimenting. You will know by how far the scuff marks go around off the edge of the tread. Shoe polish, FTW.

Oh wow, 60psi seems a bit much for me. Maybe if I bump it up to 45, they aren't performance oriented tires(they are all seasons made to last 40k), so maybe they don't like the higher psi. Will keep trying though. Next time it is 40psi.

Yours may not need to be anywhere near 60 but I would wager that they need to be a lot more than 34.

What you are trying to do is figure out how much pressure it takes to keep as much of the tread on the pavement as possible. Shoe polish at the edges will let you know what the tire wants. If you are scuffing at all past the edge of the treads and up onto the sidewall, you need more pressure. Street tires have very soft sidewall construction and respond to adding a lot more pressure.

It will ride terrible. It will turn in much better. You will need to let the pressure back out before you drive home, but you are not going to hurt them in the least running a few autocross laps.

Gonna have to start bringing a compressor of some sort. I don't want to fill them up past 40 at home and then drive to autocross. At 38 the car felt great, don't want to overdo it, but at the same time I want to see where the car sits best.
