As the 200 examples of Volkswagen hypermiler begin to ship out a retail price of £98,515 (roughly $167,000) has been announced. Although the price is staggering I find 261mpg to be every bit as impressive as 0-60 in 2.5 seconds.

Shouldn't that be 12.5 seconds?

160k is a little steep for a pretty basic 50hp diesel hybrid econocigar, but then again it is a 1750lb, mid-engined, RWD Diesel hybrid with a seven-speed DSG, and how often do you see that nowadays. Now if VW ever decided to make an R version with wide-ass tires and a Golf R engine....

Definitely steep, but when you consider the Hybrid Jetta is around 6 times less efficient at 45 combined mpg and costs $27,600 that's nearly 1/6th of the price, it also has a carbon tub and looks crazy. Is it worth it? Probably not, but I don't think it is as big of a ripoff as perceived.

Ha, I'd be surprised if it was that fast. I'm just comparing it to say a 911 Turbo, or another similar priced car and what it would have to offer.

Oh, I wold take this over many similarly priced cars. Well except for the fact that it isn't road legal over here:(.

Yeah, I guess if I could afford this and was seriously thinking about it I would be the type of person to have a second home in the EU.
