That's right, opponauts. It's time.
THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS
And this is the part where we remember that the big score in the original The Fast and the Furious movie is a truck full of combination TV/VCRs.

"WHAT'S UP WITH THIS FOOL, IS HE SANDWICH-CRAZY?!"
Also can we talk about how pretty much the whole crew drives Nissans - a Silvia, a GT-R, and...a Maxima?!?!?! Who thought throwing a Maxima in there would be a good idea?
BOOM FIRST NOS MENTION

"It's not how you stand by your car. It's how you race your car." Genius insight from this cinematic masterpiece
"MROWR! I smell...*sniff*...skanks" - Michelle Rodriguez
"Street's closed, pizza boy. Find another way home."
Awww poor baby Paul Walker. Can't even stage right
And, ladies and gentlemen, there it was: the best moment in any F&F film. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
"Granny shifting, not double-clutching like you should." Apparently, Vin Diesel doesn't have synchros on his car, and double-clutches every shift, making it a near miracle that he won that race. Additionally, Granny Shifting is when you don't rev-match your downshifts, Vin !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Also the Eclipse overheats like a mother, then it's just fine. I'm assuming Paul's driving with 8 kinds of blown head gasket and warped head here !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
"He'll find anything on the web. Anything about anybody." - Back when this was unique and not commonly known as "facebook stalking"
OH snap, Reggie Lee (the lead flaming dragon guy from Tropic Thunder) is the right hand asian gang man in this! And Brandon T. Jackson (Alpa Chino from Tropic Thunder) makes a brief appearance (later) as well!
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
is the only other person who will care about this
Vin Diesel, to a guy making out with a clothed girl: "Take it upstairs, you can't detail a car with a cover on it"
Oh man, whatever happened to Jordana Brewster
OH MY GOD THE KID WHO PLAYS ADD KID WHO'S SUCH A GOOD ACTOR IN THE FIRST F&F IS THE STONER FROM SIMON SAYS. Only !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! will appreciate the true gravity of this. EDIT: wait a second, no, he's the porno guy in F&F
In all honesty though, he kicks ass in this movie. Legitimately
Mia is so cold to Vince. So cold.
It's like dude you guys nailed it when you said he's putting Spoon engines in Honda Civics. But then you say turbos with nos? Is that where nos goes? In the turbo? What?
"What, are they planning on racing with hopes and dreams?"
Great motor oil torture scene. Oh man, so brutal
Also great cigarette exchange

Race Wars is on an old abandoned government airstrip. Sounds like highschool
I love that Jesse is like "beating a Jetta in an S2000? IMPOSSIBLE"
Paul Walker is so underrated
Paul Walker runs a cellphone trace then uses a paper map !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Oh man the end of this movie is so good
Hahahahahaha in one shot during the motorcycle chase scene you can see a guy leaning off his deck taking pictures with a digital camera
Ugh. Yes. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
And that's the end of movie one! Lol there's a song in it called "Nocturnal Transmission"
Also Lesson #1 of Fast and Furious films: ALWAYS stay after the credits. ALWAYS
"I live my life a quarter-mile at a time. Nothing else matters. For those 10 seconds (or less)...I'm free."

The maxima is just there for the sweet FWD burnout when he leaves the BBQ all pissed off.

I honestly couldn't bring myself to watch the ones made after the fourth movie.
Given that there is a huge difference between "terrible but entertaining" and "plain terrible" FF3 and FF4 were so awful that I gave up on the franchise. The trailers weren't able to convince me to change my opinion in the future.

Maybe, but there are enough terrible entertaining movies out there to keep myself busy with learning quotes and being all pop-cultury. ;-)

I'd say 5 and 6 were the best of the lot. Still pretty cheesy at times of course but entertaining and less glaring "danger to manifold so the floor drops out " sort of errors.

I don't always shift into 11th gear but when I do it is halfway through a quarter mile.

I don't mind errors and nonsense.
What I don't like his harder to explain and more subjective. It's a lack of care and love by those who made it that makes a movie stale and generic. Add nonsense and errors and it's a recipe for a plain terrible movie.
There is an atmosphere in certain films which I react to. I'd describe this atmosphere as "warm and well-meaning". This has nothing to do with the contend of the flick since it's all about the execution by those involved. A movie is as we know always more than the sum of its (possibly flawed) parts.
And as it's true with all objects of affection you might see it completely different when it comes to comparing our judgements of certain movies relating to this atmosphere.
FF1 had this atmosphere and the others I saw were lacking it completely.

I gave up after the first one. I assume they're all terrible.

That's actually a very good point. 2 fast is my least favourite because of that dry generic feel. I always thought the others were a bit better in that regard though.

Like I wrote we might experience them differently because of the "feel". I'm fine with that. Enjoy! :-)

You forgot to mention Jonny Tran putting SR20 engines (ahem, Nissan) into the empty engine bays of his Civics. Why wouldn't you just use a B- or an H-series and add a turbo for an easy engine swap??

Aaaah I thought I noticed that, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and assumed I just got confused as to whether they were the Civics we had seen or Nissans I hadn't noticed
