On my way home from work today, a guy in a black E36 M3 (dumped on shitty looking wheels but not quite stanced, tinted windows, blacked out trim & lights, fart pipe exhaust) noticed my 135is and tried to instigate a race, in the middle of a pretty crowded street. He was rocking a gangsta lean with one hand on the wheel and the other holding a phone up to his head. His general appearance was very douchebro.
I, on the other hand, was talking to my girlfriend on my bluetooth hands-free link, and when I noticed this dude blipping the throttle at me, and then sticking his hand out the window and pointing, I said to the gf, "hey want to hear something funny?" and explained what was going on. She was not amused.
At one point the traffic in front of me dispersed, and for a brief moment I contemplated letting this douchebro hear what a genuine M Performance exhaust sounds like instead of some piece of crap welded-on canister muffler. But I thought better of it, and just kept driving along normally. Once he realized I wasn't going to participate in any shenanigans, he pulled off on a side street and flipped a U-turn.
Hopefully, my prevention of two black BMW coupes with loud exhausts driving irresponsibly amongst other cars, will produce some tiny ripple of positive karma throughout the automotive universe.
Probably not.

even though I hate the BMW "douchebro" stigma, I would still buy one in a heartbeat if I could afford the upkeep. A 135is is on my wish list of awesome cars to own one day!
The stigma is pretty bad though... For example, Hondas! I would never buy an Si, because of the image they give off

This happens to me quite often unfortunately...but not just with other BMW's everything form Impala SS's to Chargers (they are the worst actually)

Same I want 135is and a z4 hardtop. I'd never buy a civic though. Not enough performance for the stigma

Lol E36's, I had a guy in a E36 M3 try to race me off the lights. Thankfully the road was 100% open and it wasn't in a town or anything so he got a big helping of humble pie, and I didn't even have to break 60mph to do it.
Those twin turbo I6's can be fast little fuckers, do you have a tune on yours or anything?

I just don't worry about it. I know that *I'm* (mostly) not a douche. I've had other cars with stereotypes although not as bad: an Integra GSR and a Miata.
The finance guy tied really hard to sell me tint I had no intention of buying. He's like "you've got the carbon black with the blacked out trim, the tint will totally TRANSFORM the car!" I didn't have the heart to tell him it was douchey enough for me as is. Didn't get the tint though.

DO IT! I bought a 335is, and it is TOTALLY worth it, oh my god do I love it. Just get a 135is, or any E-chassis, I've still yet to drive an F-chassis that has impressed me (and good god is the steering sad, but I do still need to test drive an F80 M3 when one finally comes in to a local dealer, although the M2 is much higher up my list... if I ever sell my 335is, but I doubt that).
Also, I always signal and never tailgate in my BMW (I don't want to have some rock chip from following too close), YET if I drive the exact same way I do in my Saabaru it's all roses, but when I'm in my is people flick me off, yell, try and not let me pass.. it is maddening, I've got to tell you.
