The comments scare me on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . And then I saw that Gawker was the original blog for the post. So I wasn't surprised to see people BRAGGING that they don't know how to parallel park. Worse still, people think it's good that they failed the parking portions repeatedly and then passed! WHAT THE EVERLOVING FUCK IS THAT?!?!? You wouldn't like it if we certified pilots who didn't know how to land at odd airports, so why should it be acceptable to get your license when you can't do something you have to eventually do EVERY time you drive a car? Move over jezebel, it's jalopnik's turn to shame the other blogs! *ahem*
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
ALL YOU COMMENTERS ON OTHER BLOGS, KNOW THIS - YOU ARE AN INFERIOR HUMAN BEING IF YOU WILLINGLY DRIVE WITHOUT KNOWING BASIC MANEUVERS SUCH AS PARKING AND NO YOU ARE NOT "LUCKY" IF YOU PASSED YOUR TEST WITHOUT NEEDING TO PARALLEL PARK, YOU'RE A FUCKING ROAD HAZARD AND SHOULDN'T DRIVE IN PUBLIC UNTIL YOU LEARN HOW!
Whew.......I feel better now. Can we take on the mantle of making everyone else on the gawker blogs better drivers?
EDIT: And of course the driver in that video is in a beige camry.......

At least we know on who to blame should we have a parallel-parking accident. It took me a number of times before I took my test (before my 18th birthday.)
It was tedious, but if you know your car to a T, bam.
I weep for the future.

I never understood being proud of being ignorant of/unversed in something.

My girlfriend cant parallel park and it confuses the hell out of me. I dont drive all that regularly as my name suggests but i can jump into damn near anything and get it parked. Just always found it very easy.

I don't want to boil it down to an "anti-intellectual culture" but I think it's fear of the unknown. If you aren't the type that enjoys learning then what you don't know is foreign and scary to you. So to them, they feel proud that they didn't have to face that fear. But the sad reality is that their life is worse because of that ignorance, not better. It's like the people who brag about not needing math to get a job but their job has shit pay and benefits and hours compared to the better jobs that require math skills.

Maybe it's supposed to indicate some sort of intellectual purity.

Hell, I take pride in my ability to parallel park. Cram the car into a spot two feet longer than the car? Part of me doesn't even care about heading to my destination anymore. In my mind I just want to stand there and show everyone what I did. "Look at that. That's a hell of a parking job, isn't it? Yep, *I* did that."
Then there's the bonus of mocking the next guy that tries to use the spot. After pulling out of a particularly tight space in my SO's SX4? "Not gonna happen, Subaru. Ooh... DEFINITELY not gonna happen if you're doing it THAT way."

I'm sorry but that was nothing. This video was recorded a good 15 to 20 minutes (as stated a few minutes in by the person recording the footage) after this woman in Belfast started parking the car and still took another 15 minutes. It really is shocking.

You make a big assumption if you think they know what the word "purity" means. At least, what's implied in this instance.

I have a hot hatch now and just once, I want to do this style of handbrake parking

Oh I know the video itself wasn't as big of a train wreck as others, but the comments were what scared me. The people in the comments? They're the future stars of a video like this.

It's what the human ego does when you believe that anyone who is 'smart' thinks they're better than you, and deep down inside you know they're probably right, so fuck them and their books.

I never understood what was so hard about parallel parking. The first time I ever did it I parked just fine. Then thinking it was just luck, I did it three more times, again without an issue. It really isn't hard...

hey now... I fucked the PP on my driving test. It was in a blizzard and the banks were out into the driving lane. Not proud of it as I could do it blindfolded during drivers ed (not literally).
Same Auditor 2 years later, watched me parallel park a school bus from being perpendicular to the zone. I felt vindicated.
