I guess GM makes them from the same plastic they use to build Saturns.

Simplify and add lightness.

I need to go find one and do it below the outer tail light. The spot Clarkson pushes is pretty bad, but under the tail light is hilarious .

I believe the Vette is fiberglass as opposed to plastic (even though fiberglass is just fancy plastic)

It's just funny to me, I don't think it really makes the car feel cheap. Waxing the bumper must be exciting.

Yep, the Corvette was the second fiberglass-bodied car to come to market, after the Kaiser Darrin.

*Factory fiberglass-bodied car

There were already quite a few full fiberglass kits on the market, IIRC, and many customs.

IIRC the body is fiberglass, but the bumpers are plastic. That way they can survive the 5mph impact test, where as fiberglass would crack.

Maybe? If it's thin enough fiberglass is pretty flexible.

Off the Corvette forums - "The bumper covers are made of polyurethane. This is why they flex so much. …" Boom.

I don't think they use fiberglass anymore...plastic is much lighter.
