Currently for sale at CarMax is this 2013 328i. Specifically, a 2013 328i M Sport with a manual transmission. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . After pricing up a near-exact copy on BMW's website, you're looking at $50,000 to get one of these new with similar options.
At the moment, B !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (no sport suspension on the xDrive models) for $30,488 that looks pretty loaded with similar mileage.
SO. Do you pay the CarMax premium and get the new 328i with awesome M Sport options, or save $8k and go with the CPO BMW?

I'd go for the latter because more fun to drive.

Hah, one of CrzRsn's friends was in exactly this situation... picked up the CPO BMW and has sworn never again to go without a warranty. CarMax for sure, IMO 2 model years newer and that sweet M badge are totally worth the 8k difference even before the warranty.

The E90 awd is more fun to drive? Huh.

I was under the impression that BMW offered a 2 year 50,000 mile warranty with CPO vehicles, bringing the total warranty up to 6 years 100,000 miles from date of new purchase, e.g. a 2013 car would be covered up to 100,000 miles or until 2019. Unluckily I burn through over 20,000 miles a year, so that extended CPO warranty would be done for by 2017.

When people use the ALL THE THINGS meme, it makes them sound like the grunts from the Halo series.
(was joke)

Clearly I don't read hard enough. Even then, it's a toss up. I just really dislike the steering I the new ones.

Ask for the DeMuro special when you get to the warranty office, and it turns from an okay deal to a smokin' deal.

I'd think they'd offer something on CPO cars, but not sure what it covers. Apparently this guy is either out of warranty by now or borked some stuff that wasn't covered.

That sounds awesome, but if you're willing to go a with something a little more inconvenient I found my mom an CPO 2011 6MT N52 Z4 (last of the N/As) with 11k miles and the M-sport package for a little less than that '13. This is no doubt a great deal, but there is still a good deal of depreciation potential. The E90 is generally more fun than the F30 from what I hear, but the RWD t6MT 328i I was in felt a bit better than the identical E90 I was in. But, those are both awesome options for sure.

I think I might wait until the 4GCs start to come off lease and see what they're going for, or I might hold off until the '13 335 is down to the low $30k mark. My E46 hasn't given me any fits yet.

I'd go for the E90 because they are more fun to drive. Not too sure about the X-drive, but nothing a set of springs/shocks and a little more suspension tweaking can't fix! Very reliable too, I drive an '07 328i

Pretty damn awesome except that dismal gas mileage. Still, seems like a good deal for a V10 super sedan with a CarMax warranty.
