Anyone who lives here knows this is a relative question (i.e. it's so appallingly bad that any corner is better than 99.9999% of roads here) so, to those that do, what are the best driving roads/routes in Metro-Detroit/SE Michigan? I'm sick of this straight crap everywhere.

I too live in SE Michigan, and none of the roads are genuinely fun at all. But I do notice more windy, curvy roads and such the more north you go here. West Bloomfield and Waterford for example. Problem is that there are many cops out there on weekends so fun is very limited if you don't have your eye out. Hopefully someone else in SE Mich. can chime in here!

Used to. Detroit is the flattest city in America. "We don't need no stinking curves".

When I lived in SE MI, I used to ride. The VFR west to the Stockbridge area early on Sunday mornings. Once there, I would refill the tank, and ride he farm roads out there until it got too hot, and then ride home. There are many ways to link the roads together.

If you are in the Rochester Hills area, you can ride north on Rochester rd to Dryden, and then east and south to Armada Ridge rd, and the end up in Memphis at a diner for breakfast. There are a few entertaining routes back from there.

Other than the farm roads out west, or the obscure roads up in the thumb, you could jump across the border and ride/drive to Pelee Point Park. Go the long way around Windsor through the little river and lake front towns... The used to be a decent outdoor Kerr track there, too.

Just break into Milford. How hard could it be?

Head out to Ann Arbor and the outlying areas, there are some fun country roads. I also enjoy heading up to Bloomfield/Waterford and following every road with "lake" in the name. Great views and nice houses, and the roads curve nicely along the lakes.

Try hitting the Ann Arbor area country roads sometime, there's nicer stuff out that way, and Washtenaw County has better road maintenance.

Soo many lake roads! White, Walnut, Cass, Elizabeth and more! It's easy to get lost because of how many times the lake roads intersect. When that happens I just find telegraph and take it south all the way back home! :P

I'm actually there for work once a month or so, the perimeter road is one of the best public around.

I'd try and sneak on, but sadly my car for the corners is a BMW which I think they notice haha.

Thanks for the suggestions, much appreciated. I'm actually heading out to Armada today for work (one of our facilities is way the hell out there). I'll have to check it out on maps and see if I have time to check it out while I'm out there.

Like you said, the problem with every lake road is the seemingly endless supply of cops and how every lake road, basically, is smack between a lake and houses or the lake road is between the lake houses and others across the street.... It's so annoying because they COULD be decent.

Head west on 7 Mile from Livonia. Follow Shore Dr and Main St around Whitmore Lake to 8 Mile. Follow Sheldon and Hamburg Rd’s to M-36. I like to take some of the winding ‘lake neighborhood’ streets south towards Strawberry Lake Rd (Kress Rd to Cordley Lake Rd; south on Whitewood, Shehan, and McGregor to Dexter-Pinkney Rd.

Head north there to Darwin Rd which turns into Patterson Lake Rd. Drive through Hell (actual town) then head south on Glenbrook and Hankerd Rd’s. Turn right on N Territorial Rd, then right onto Hadley Rd - nice winding road and SL of 55 or 60 up to Unadilla. Head to Bowdish Rd via either Joslin Lake Rd and Boyce Rd or Williamsville Rd. Very low SL on the upside down “U”; no idea why that is there, but it’s a neat little bend.

Find your way back to Doyle, Patterson Lake, and Dexter-Pinckney Rd’s. Head south to Main and Central St’s in Dexter. Then take scenic Huron River Dr to Ann Arbor. Speed Limit is very heavily enforced, but great views and not just another straight road. Then go get a sour beer at Jolly Pumpkin.
