I don't want pro touring. I want old touring.

The real deal from the real time. I wonder how the handling on this '67 Titus Mustang equates to today's "pro-touring" handling mods. Of course todays' mods are complete replacements and alterations for a real race setup but honestly, doing what they did in the old T/A days, and avoiding 19 inch wheels should get you very close shouldn't it?

I quite like the handling -> just good enough approach. Making it a Not-The-Same-But-We're-Pretending-It-Is car is an interest-killer to me regardless of genre.

I'm with ya. Vintage race cars are the ultimate expression of awesome.

the honestly handled like garbage compared to today. I've read the Camaro Untold Secrets book that mainly talks about all the engineering that was done on the Z/28 camaros for trans am racing. Most everything was factory equipment that was massaged. They didn't have rear sway bars, subframe connectors and the roll cages were very basic. There were some special parts that got snucked onto the cars.

The polite answer is FUCK NO IT WON'T BE CLOSE. LOL.

There are very big differences.

For starters, materials are different. Back then you had stamped or tubular steel components, rubber or solid steel bushings, 13/16" sway bars, poor compound tires and poor brake friction materials, clutch lsds only (for the most part), long throw shifters on crash box transmissions, recirculating ball steering boxes, nothing was TIG welded, fluid engineering wasn't as good and probably a bunch of other stuff I can't think of off of the top of my head.

Nowadays even a lower-end pro touring build will be better in almost every conceivable way.

Vintage racing is bad ass and fun to watch but off the shelf technology is way past it at this point.

I'm happy with pro-touring to be honest, provided you leave out the colossal rims. Do everything the same, but leave it with a retro paint colour and some fat meaty sidewalls.
