If that were actually a Rickroll, your mom would be a legend.

I'm going through this with my neighbors right now. Love them to death, but damn, they dumb and stubborn when it comes to this stuff.

(both on AOL) He got a few people with the GoogleDoc phishing email that has been going around recently. I knew better because I have to explain "the cloud" to him about once a month. No way he would ever send anything that complicated. FINALLY got him to change his password (again) and everything is fine. Sorry buddy, it doesn't matter how matter how many times you tell me "It wasn't me that sent it."

His wife on the other hand, her account has been compromised, and her contacts have been stolen. We're getting spam emails with "soccermom52@aol.com*" in the subject, and "soccermom52' as the username, but if you look closely, the return email address is someone else.

No password change will help her. Even if she burned the account it wouldn't work. The only thing she can do is create a new address with a new screen-name and tell all her contacts to forever ignore "soccermom52."

*I made that up. Not her real email address. Do not attempt to write soccermom52@aol.com. Do not expect information about McMike from soccermom52@aol.com. If you do happen to write soccermom52@aol.com and someone responds, please share.

It took me a few months to finally convince her, but I got my mother to begin using a password manager, as well as two-factor authentication.

Hell, I got a co-worker to finally being using two-factor auth on her Google account after that Heartbleed scare. So much less "tech advice" is now necessary since I began telling people to start using two-factor auth and password managers.
