I've been going through the charging system wiring on my Cougar and I'm to a point where I'm basically replacing everything and upgrading to the newer style 3g alternator as opposed to the stock 2g 65 amp pile of crap that Ford thought was sufficient in the mid '80's.... That and I blew a fusible link.....

I bought some new ground wires for the block to chassis. The red wire is 2 gauge for a size comparison.

Kinja'd!!!

The new alternator, power wire and fuse setup go on in a couple of days. In the meantime I replaced my fusible link and put those gigantic grounding straps in my car.....

1. My voltage gauge now reads HIGHER than it ever has before

2. I've had this odd issue the car has had since I purchased it in 1998. My oil pressure gauge is digital and has an 8 bar readout. 4 bars is nominal. When I would turn on the rear window defrost, the oil pressure gauge would read one bar higher and upon shutting it off it would return to it's previous position. After seeing the new high reading on the voltage gauge, I decided to give that a whirl. On went the rear window defrost. NO CHANGE. I tried it about 5 or 6 times. Nothing. Before tonight it would do this without fail regardless of engine temperature or weather condition. It was an absolute. The speed of light is 186282 miles per second, standard acceleration due to free fall is defined as 9.80665 m/s2, when I turn on the rear defrost my oil pressure will read one bar higher.

I'm buying more of those straps and putting them in my other cars.

Sonic Blue Cobra for your troubles...

Kinja'd!!!

G'night all!
