Manual steering and throttle manipulation are #totallylame and #antiquated. Real car enthusiasts would rather #playracingsims in their #googlecar because driving takes so much work. Hell, if you want to steer and brake and all of that stuff, you might as well SHIFT YOUR OWN GEARS! Actually, grandpa just said they used to do that for "fun." What a bunch of old farts! Don't they know that's dangerous and stressful?

I would love about half the people on the road that I encounter to just stop driving, or have someone else/something else drive for them. It would reduce my daily stress intake.

Struck me more as a lazy light satire than an attempt at genuine argument, thus questionably a straw man as such. That being said, it's worth a thought as to whether the same weak arguments and reactionary frames of mind both for and against would proliferate in a sufficiently distant future (and in a different context) as the "joke" posits.

Shit, what's wrong with lazy light satire? There have always been weak debates about transmissions, automakers, layouts, utility. It brings the human aspect into the hobby and makes things more fun and more interesting. Let it keep going, I say. People have so little tolerance for any joking around anymore, and that's far more irritating than the dumb jokes themselves.

I wasn't using lazy as a negative, FWIW. Joke in quotes was mostly to indicate to Brt that perhaps his sense of humor is tuned for a different rev range.

I totally get what you mean, and I quite literally banged this out in <30 seconds so you're right, too. I get the vibe that people would trade in their theoretical Hakosukas for R35s, 2000GTs for LFAs, Miuras for Aventadors, Gullwing 300SLs for whatever this AMG GT thing will be, and V12 E-types for F-types just because they. And I will joke about the technology humping, because this is not C-net but a website for an interest that was started by a love of unconventionality and runs on nostalgia.
