What do you think Oppo? I want to get something to carry the snowboard into the Alps this winter but I don't really want a dedicated ski/snowboard rack. My thinking is that with this I could strap a board or two on in the winter but use it in the summer for festivals, camping, baggage, etc. Oh and this is for an Oxford White FieSTa so I think the black would look pretty good.

I'm just curious why you'd prefer that in stead of this: http://www.autoanything.com/roof-racks/thu…
Less noise, greater capacity, less fuel.

I dont know if it will work well with boards but with the WRX, i'm getting a trailer hitch instead of the roof rack. I do a lot of mountain biking. To get the cross members it looked to be around $300 and then $150 per bike mount. So thats $600 for 2 bikes. If I do a hitch, the hitch is $150 and the bike mount is $150-$200 (however my parents have one they dont use so they are going to give that to me therefore my overall cost is $150 ish) Maybe look into the hitch. I was told they are better because you dont have all sorts of crap melting or falling (dirt from bikes) onto your roof. I also use the WRX for dump runs so I was thinking I could pick up a cargo platform or small trailer at some point. The cargo platform might work for what you need.

way more expensive i'd imagine but those also lock so you have better security. Its a good idea if the cost isn't an issue. I'd be curious about the fuel as it has a bigger frontal area.

For me the cost of the Thule roof racks and then their box as well would kill me. I also feel like I could stack a bunch of shit on the basket, at least for short trips.

Better security, I forgot that one. And therefor: way more relaxed as you don't have to get everything off the Yakima when leaving the car somewhere for over an hour. The cheapest Thule isn't much more expensive than the most expensive Yakima. And believe me: when traveling over 100km/h you wish you'd gone for the Thule. Both in noise and in fuel-consumption. Bigger frontal area is a fact but it's a aerodynamic box instead of a rack with all kinds of bulbs, metal bars, etc.

I do like the idea of a small trailer but I don't know if I'd get enough use out of it for it to make sense. I found a dedicated ski/snowboard rack with the cross bars on the local "craigslist" for $100 so I'm going to check it out today and see if it fits because that'll save me a few hundred bucks.

I do agree that the box would be quieter, more secure, etc. but I am just not looking to spend that kind of money. I still have plenty of time to decide what I am going to do but, Winter is Coming.
