whatever you do, please don't by a super duty with the newer 6.0L diesel... there a head gasket nightmare

The 6.0L diesel has gotten a bad rep. Most of the problems were caused by people who installed 'tuners' for more power etc. People have this expectation that they can do that with no consequences because the tunes for most diesels have been very conservative. If you leave the 6.0 stock and keep up on maintenance it can run fine for hundreds of thousands of miles.

They aren't bad if you can find them bullet proofed. In fact the 06-07's have less warranty claims than any year of the 7.3, according to the powerstroke help guy. Really, as long as you work them and NOT baby them, they are usually fine if you watch the egt's. It keeps the EGR clean. Or you can just delete that and fix the problem.
