Well, it rolled around 5k for it's first oil change. I used 5w30 Mobil 1. I here mixed reviews about it but it's affordable and it's all I used in a lot of my cars.

I have used Mobil 1 in most of the cars I have owned. I like the Extended Performance because of the higher levels of phosphorous and zinc than standard motor oils. I also use Amsoil filters.

Every car at my house gets Mobil 1. Never had a bad experience with it so far. Got the slight shudder out of my wagon, and it idles beautifully now.

Mostly high performance, one qt of high mileage because i needed 7 qts, and i had no choice. I have a fram synthetic filter because it was on the shelf. It just works.

I used 5qts of 5w30, manual says. 4.8 with the filter but seemed to be the perfect amount with exactly 5. Seems to run pretty well now, before the dealer changed it with something that was black as tar when it came out of the pan. And that was 2500 less than the change interval so I'm glad I did it now.

I've never heard bad things about Mobil 1. I use the extended performance (15,000 mile) in my 5 series (15k intervals) and top off inbetween with the 0W40 European formula (it's BMW LL-01 approved). I usually use Bosch filters but I just ordered a K&N one the other day.

4.8 should include the stock filter size, keep an eye on those levels. Too much oil, and it'll foam. If it foams, you can damage the oil pump.

If you were using a larger oil filter, then you can factor in the extra oil.

I had a local shop do the first change on the wagon because i didnt want issues with the drain plug myself. Luckily, they had no trouble. It only cost me $12 and change to have them do it as well, since I provide the oil and filter. Small price to pay to ensure no mess in my driveway.

a fifth of a quart isn't going to make it foam.

I've checked my level twice, right under the full dot on the stick so far so good.

Yeah those 15k intervals are scary but BMW's seem to like it.
