If someone creates a new brand whose name starts with Ab then Acura is f'd
The only thing that Acura has going for it is that it shows up first in alphabetized lists

Couldn't find a good picture with them all together, this is the best I could do.
Also, interesting fact: The Holden Malibu is built in South Korea, not in the US, like the Volt is.

I know. Its impossible for a car maker to go so opposite to its roots. Even Bentley hasnt done something so radical from their beginning.

Heres what I found:
1. Audi Manual Wagon!!!!! It doesent look in the best shape, and reliability may be worrying, but it is an awesome choice with the V6. Its a 1998 with 186,000 Miles and Its in Duluth Wisconsin
http://duluth.craigslist.org/cto/4475685967
2. 1996 VW Jetta. It is the 2.0, and the wheel bearing has to be changed as well as the exhaust. Its cheap at $750, but if the guy repairs both things it will cost $1,500.
http://duluth.craigslist.org/cto/4475073577
3. 1999 Passat 1.8 Turbo Manual. The most interesting VW, but reliability is still troubling. I like this one really.
http://racine.craigslist.org/cto/4526986111
4. 1997 Saab 900 Turbo Manual. This is quite cool, and sweedish. I like it a lot, its in ingleside and in budget
http://racine.craigslist.org/cto/4510770414
5. 2000 Saab 9-3 Turbo. Much younger, and better shape than the other cars. The guy needs it out of his possesion pronto so the price could go down.
http://racine.craigslist.org/cto/4496593537
6. 1993 BMW 318is. It is a bit, sketchy. But its at just $1000 dollars, RWD, and running good, so you have plenty of dough left.
http://racine.craigslist.org/cto/4474759128
7. Volvo 240DL. The boxy buletproof Volvo. Maintined by Volvo enthusiast though it has a lot of miles. Still, only $975!
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4525951239
8. 2001 Passat 1.8 Manual. This one is a nice looking car. It has some frontal damage, but at 1,900 dollars, you can fix that.
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4511182312
9. 1998 Saab Coupe Turbo 900s. This looks cool, but still the reliability, and ease of parts worry me. Isnt in best shape either.
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4482088409
10. 1998 AWD Subaru manual wagon. Just that, oh, and a lovely green shade.
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4503309549
11. I want this car. Seriously. A 1986 VW Cabriolet Karman edition. It looks basically with a reworked interior and nicely inside and out. Loved this!!
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4502144600
12. 2002 Land Rover Freelander. The What? Manual? Investigate this.
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4468594170
13. VW Passat Wagon 1.8 Turbo Wagon. Very cool, but high miles.
http://madison.craigslist.org/cto/4455623120
14. $500 Dollar 1997 Jetta GLX VR6!!!! Check the ad though, it needs some parts you could replace for the money you will save. Pretty convincing.
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4529574036
15. 1995 BMW 525i Manual! It is an ugly color, but looks decent and should hold well for a few years. "Runs like a race car"
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4516396086
16. 1996 Golf GTI. 4 Cilinder, but looks plenty good. I like it ,and it hasnt got that many miles. Its in Milwaukee.
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4526585766
17. 1990 Audi 80 5 speed. Looks clean enough, and not too many miles.
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4522479891
18. 1992 Ford Taurus Manual SHO. This is a good choice, and the owner seems to treat it very well.
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4508906232
19. 1990 VW CORRADO G60 5 SPEED! Runs! for $1,900 Dollars! Awesome!
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4507204302
20. 1995 Passat GLX VR6. Manual, running order, looks questionable, but ok.
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4490913012
21. AMC Eagle SX4 (I know you like these) But it needs a lot of work.
http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/4502318613
22. 2002 VW Passat 1.8 Turbo. It appears to be damn clean, and very classy. This one is in rockford Illinois
http://rockford.craigslist.org/ctd/4526899959
23. 1998 GTI VR6! It has some nontasty aftermarket stuff, but it is nicely under budget at $1,100 dollars. Great deal!
http://rockford.craigslist.org/cto/4463215349
24. Nice looking red cabrio 2.0. Its a 1998 fully loaded with not that high mileage
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/452926
The Way I see it, you have a LOT of choice! Good luck finding something you like :)
