Costa Rica is guaranteed to go through in world cup soccer, thanks to beating Uruguay (HAHAHA I hate you Suarez!) and Italy.
The other team in their group is England, and they just got eliminated. Costa Rica goes through and either Uruguay or Italy will.
Given Italy, England and Uruguay have all won world cups, and Costa Rica only made it to the elimination round once in 1990 and didn't even qualify for the world cup in 2010...this is quite an achievement!

The World Cup is the only time I watch soccer with actual genuine interest, and I always love it when underdogs win .

I caught the first half.
Costa Rica does not look like a fluke now. That's two great games in a row against tough competition.
I don't think anybody wants to play them now. They're very crafty on offense. And their defense is pretty good too.

...the other 3 teams had all won world cups. Costa Rica's best performance was the final 16 24 years ago.

Exactly. I don't know shit about who is good and who isn't. But when they say somebody should beat so-and-so, I always root for so-and-so. No matter the sport, I find top level international competition much more interesting than league play. Americans, in general, could care less about their national team, but everywhere else it's huge.

Doesn't really matter. It's simply a nice way to describe England's games so far. (BTW, he's a Canadian ex-soccer-player, who played in England for a while.)

Costarica was undoubtely better than us, and deserved to win. But I've been there, and seen that a lotta times... now we'll have a LOT of polemics and critics on the media, the Italian team will decide not to talk with the press anymore (" silenzio stampa "), and in the next match they'll start attacking from the very beginning, and will carry out a terrible pressing till they'll make a goal. Our players need to be ashamed to start fighting, and they always lost the match that comes immediately after a first victory. Been there, seen that...

Who cares if they've won WCs in the past? What matters is right now. And right now, England, Italy, and Uruguay are ranked 10, 9, and 7, respectively. The US, Portugal, and Germany are 13, 4, and 2.

Definitely a big upset. The thought of not having Spain, England, Italy (maybe), or Portugal (maybe) in the knockout rd is difficult to fathom.
