So I was driving home......
When a 2000 or 20001 Chevy Impala, the national car of Houston, came inches from hitting me on the right side. The car was swerving like crazy! At first, I though it was another wacko that got cut off trying to get revenge on another motorist. But, the car was swiftly cutting pretty much everyone on the freeway. The car continued northbound in between lanes, on the shoulder, and attacking anyone that honked at it. Complete psycho or something. Closer to my exit, I caught up to the vehicle because it was doing around 35 MPH. The car ,with its never ending blinker and stuck brake light switch, exited as I passed it. I looked, and it a rather large lady behind the wheel. Here is when things got super lame, there was a 5-7 year old girl in the passenger seat screaming and crying without a seat belt.
That's when I decided that I had to do something. Thankfully the driver stayed on the access road enough for me to exit and get behind her. I dialed 911 and explained to the dispatcher the situation. As I was explaining to the dispatcher the trail of destruction, she did a crazy U-turn under the freeway. The dispatcher told me not to loose her. I safely got across and opened the 30 valve V6 Quattro to catch up. Now heading southbound for no reason, the driver stayed on the access road not going when the lights were green and swerving like crazy narrowly missing other drivers.
She then gets on the freeway again continuing to drive like a psycho as I explained to the dispatcher our exact position, exits, and speed. Then, the lady pulls over. I also pulled over but many car lengthens behind. After around 6-8 minutes she merges back on the freeway and punches it. I had to wait because traffic came up. Then I accelerated hard to catch up as the dispatcher told me to. I catch up to her because she again slowed down to around 30-35 MPH on a busy freeway in between all the lanes going left to right. Finally, we hit traffic downtown because duh, what else is new lol.
By then I see the officer as he pulls in between us. She keeps going for a while then slows. Seen in the opening picture, yay SR20 :] She stumbles out of the crappy Impala with paper plates and hella worn tires. Backup arrives and just in time. She just would not cooperate with the officer's instructions. The officer then comes to me and tells me to hang out a bit and re explain what happened. He tells me she is completely out of it. They go back to talking to her. Finally the officer comes to me to see my license and phone number. He was going to cut her a break but she was pissing him off and is going to take her in under supposition of drunk driving. He said thanks for following her and calling 911. He said she can barely stand and that I more than likely saved her life and the kids...yes, kid(s). There was the 5-7 year old up front but 2 toddlers in the back without child seats.
All in all, I kinda feel like this....
lol :]

Drunk driving is scary shit. And people always give me weird looks when I say I always walk to the bar if I plan on having more than one.........
But yeah I had a similar encounter. I was making a left turn on a green arrow when a car cam careening into the right turn lane in the opposite direction and almost smashed into me. They jumped the curb and came back into the road. Obviously hammered, they kept swerving across three lanes of road and I was calling 911 before they even hit the curb. I followed them for a while but once they started just blazing red lights I stopped.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:10 |

heck yeah lol :]
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:11 |

Audi and EL_ULY FTW. And getting told by a dispatcher "don't lose them" would be a dream come true for me.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:14 |

I did the same years ago with a 3 tonne truck that was weaving all over the road. no kids involved though. Just some drunk dude.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:15 |

Well done. You should change your name to Super El_Uly.
Also, in my search for the above image I found this.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:16 |

Yeah good move on your part. I was following but only in a safe manor. I wasn't going to put myself in danger also. I'd ignore it usually but the kid in the front seat was just wrong. Good on your part dude, hopefully they were stopped.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:17 |

Hopefully you get an award/key to the city/Hennessey Venom GT.

I'm sure you were all like:
Glad you got to save some children and get another Darwin Award winner off the road.
I once called in two fools in a '13 Sonata and '12 Cruze that were pretty much street racing on the freeway. I had to get off the freeway so I never knew what happened but they were cutting people off, going pretty dang fast, swerving, and getting ridiculously close to people.

![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:19 |

You were in the zone, maybe the danger zone?
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:19 |
|
lol, I was only going to do it in a safe manor of course. If it got too dangerous then was going to back off. Good thing the traffic flow was moving and fairly open. My wagon isn't the quickest off the line, but it has the autobahn in it's blood and it showed.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:20 |

lol well, Hennessey is right down the road.... fingers crossed :]
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:21 |

they come to Cars And Coffee all the time. John shows up normally in the Venom or in his CTS-V and just kinda hangs out with people in the most casual way. If you want to talk with him he is just there chillin.

![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:31 |

he is a rad dude. Such a normal chill person like Jay Leno. I know a couple guys that have worked at Hennessey. They only have good things to say about the place.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:32 |
|
i guess maybe because there was kids involved
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:32 |

Time to get a job at Hennessey as the Lexus/Lotus/Volvo/Aston specialist.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:32 |
|
Good on you mate. I'd find a sweet Cookie Monster pic but I'm on my potato so you'll have to settle for some Aussie/Kiwi/Brit slang from a Midwesterner pretending to be Finn and trying to be cool.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:34 |
|
I felt bad for the kid for sure. Usually I ignore dummies like that but I felt for the kids. When the officer told me that there were un strapped toddlers in the back, I imminently thought of the crazy swerving earlier. Lame situation but I'm glad it was taken care of safely.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:36 |
|
I didn't get to see what happened but I hope they did too. Once they started breaking too many trafic laws I backed off and let the cops know I wasn't putting everyone at risk by adding to it all. But you understood that yourself. It's part of doing your civic duty to protect law abiding citizens.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:36 |
|
lol, well... I don't know too much about performance enhancements. I could install the parts but diagnosing issues on aftermarket products requires training. Any mods on the Fieast any time soon?
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:38 |
|
Thanks buddy. I feel you rad peeps would of done the same.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:39 |
|
exactly sir. Sometimes you just got to.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:40 |
|
Probably not. I'm honestly happy with it stock. I want to master it at the limit at autocross, and driving a slower car fast is just so satisfying. In a few years, I'll upgrade to something different. I'm thinking IS-F, C6 'Vette, or E90 M3 (if any of those are cheap enough by that time)
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:40 |

NOICE JUB SRR

![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:47 |

My want for an IS-F grew about 10 times when one showed up at the AutoX last week and this one girl was hammering it around the course. Dat V8!!!
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:47 |
|
Yeah, but no one listens *sniff*
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:50 |

dat induction sound!! i was the only tech to work on the IS-F's at my dealer. I solved a tough issue with the rear camber and some noises on a dudes blue one. He came down to my bay personally to thank me for getting the numbers right. turns out he was the president of the AutoX thing in San Antonio and gave me his card to compete in my e36 M3 at the time. I only went twice but it was super fun!! It was at a high school stadium parking lot. I did ok, ended up a little lower than in the middle of a group of 30
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:52 |

![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:53 |

Nice! That's pretty damn cool. I know if I buy an IS-F I'll never stop bothering you with questions about the car.
"What is this stupid plastic thing on the top??"
"HOW DO I CHANGE THE SPARK PLUGS"
" SHOW ME HOW TO REBUILD THE ENGINE "
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:56 |

Excellent work sir!!
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:58 |

lol yeah I was kidding. No beaches anywhere near where I live, but we do have the sandhills. I'm not sure that would go so well though.
![]() 06/19/2014 at 22:58 |
|
Wow! Awesome you could help, especially with the kids involved.
The closest I've come to this was one night noticing oncoming headlights in the fast lane: someone had managed to get on an Interstate going backwards. Called 911 and reported it, but no way was I going to turn around and chase them going the wrong way. :-)
![]() 06/19/2014 at 23:02 |
|
-it's a mechanical fuel pump/regulator sound dampener because it runs off an extra exhaust came lobe!!!! That's why its all insolated!!!
-use a 10mm to pull the coils and a 5/8ths spark plug socket. Do them every 120K. Use OEM Denso Iridium plugs!!! AHHH!!!
-EEEEHHHH I'll fly out to NY on Friday, get the air mattress ready ahh!!!
![]() 06/19/2014 at 23:02 |

![]() 06/19/2014 at 23:04 |

wow dang! Yeah, I was going to back off if it got too bad, but thankfully it didn't by some miracle. She was driving super psycho
![]() 06/19/2014 at 23:10 |

Like a boss! Brings up an interesting question: surely dispatchers don't typically say "stay with her" but in this case, would you be excused from your moving violations if you actually kept pace?
