In searching for a better version of my welding rod joke I stumbled across this gem which clearly deserves its own post. It is worth clicking over to !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! to read the comments on this one.

Walk into a classroom with your welding helmet flipped up because you forgot it was on your head, then don't notice until halfway through class. That's one way to get weird looks.

I stumbled upon an awesome facebook page while googling welding pictures. I laughed at way too many of them. Because they have happened to me. Our very own Brown Dog Welding even got a picture on their feed. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Welder-M…

Ever wonder how your helmet lens got so clean? Only to find out it is still flipped up after striking an arc?

Luckily the lens isn't clear when in "light" mode, it's bout 1/4 dark before striking so you know something is wrong if everything is clear. But I can say I've shut my eyes to put down a quick tack instead of flipping the helmet down, in hindsight it wasn't the best idea.

I've definitely forgotten to flip the helmet down. Or you get the sensors hidden from the arc and it takes getting flashed three times before you figure it out.
For quick tacks you can use your off hand to shield your eyes from the arc. That is easier with MIG as are most things.

man. I hate flash blindness. Once in school with hand held masks an a slight twitch. Once while working in a welding area and not being allowed a mask (not welding). Apparently, 8 hours with a welder going off beside your head just inside your periferal is ok.....
