Jaguars don't count - not wanting to change inboard brakes is laziness.

65-82 Corvette, the rear rotors need to be balanced on the hub and riveted in place. If you don't do that, the calipers will pump air into the system.

Anything requiring removal/disassembly of the hub. "Heavy half-ton" 4wd Suburbans from the 80s are a royal pain in the ass, because they eat rotors, which then require very irritating replacement. To get the rotor off, you have to press it off the *back* of the hub, after disassembling the 4wd locking hubs at least partway and then taking loose the hub bearings to remove the hub. Eff. That.

The ideal of this kind of sucky brakes would be one with extra pistons in the caliper as well, or something like that.

Looks like just about everybody is saying some version of "driven captive rotors" so far.

Early Hyundais are the same. :P still not as bad as the Toyota pickups in my experience though.

Taking the wheel off is the easy part duh. Plus, there is plenty of room. But then....things get a little tricky. It's always inconvenient to have to use that special twist coin style piston depressor instead of the classic, big ass channel locks. But it's not too uncommon. Once you figure out what pined coin it uses, all you have to do is twist right?...... WRONG!!!! it will not turn! On newer C30's, you have to have the car plugged in to Volvo's scan tool VIDA. Once you put a battery charger and plug in the bluetooth DiCE, you turn the key on and find the right DiCE. You log in to the car and head to the ABD module. Once there you have to clear any codes and click on the service ABS tab. Once there, you have to put the rear brake calipers in Service Mode. once in Service mode, the piston will be able to twist in. All this, not counting the different types of rear brake pads available for this car depending on chassis break and type of rotor and region the car was initially sold. Plus, it important to click on LHD or RHD as all variables apply to each.

Citroën DS brakes. This is a cut-away in a museum. You still cannot see the brakes. Replacement requires removal of all sorts of components.

Kinja'd!!!

They are inboard and located under the radiator.

If you've never done one before your first thought is why isn't the rotor coming off. Next is what the hell are those two screws. Than after you try to take them off with a regular screw driver and break said screw driver you're left scratching your head. I had to ask a mechanic I saw working on one how to do it and he told me to use an impact driver. It's easy to think something is simple when you already know the answer.

But really it is a 5 step process. Step 3 should be "go to the hospital to get the spring removed from your eye", then move on to the next steps.

Holy hell. I can't even get my head around the steering rack. It looks like there is a cylinder running the full width of the car that moves the collar in the middle of it which then has the two longest tie rods in the world.

I think if your eye was really that big, you would already have been crushed by all of the celestial objects attracted to such a large mass. Mom, you got soap in my eyes. Quit cryin, your brother has had Jupiter in his left eye for the past 3 days and I don't see him crying.

IIRC the power steering, suspension and steering system all share the same vegetable oil based oleo-pneumatic (people mistakenly call the DS suspensions hydro-pneumatic, but it ain't water) fluid. Literally french fry oil.
