It's actually pointless.

For the numbers, nobody would have to fill up on that one day. Like zero petrol movement. Which never happens.

And even then, if it did, the reserves would sort themselves out because everyone who didn't buy that day would just have to go buy the next day along with those who normally would need fuel that day.

Net zero losses to the industry.

Silly silly Facebook people.

That is one of the stupidest things I've seen in quite a while and I see a lot of stupid shit. Do they really think that magically people won't still need the same amount of gas and just buy it the day before or after?

I always laugh at these. If you want to get lower gas prices, use less fuel. (but how?) DRIVE BETTER. (I am a good driver) No, you really aren't. Accelerate at a more moderate pace, maintain speed, brake sooner and slower, adjust for coasting to stops, maintain speed, stop racing from red light to red light [what I call it when someone speeds from a light that just turned green to hurry up and get the the next light an 1/8 mile down the road even though that light is already red], maintain speed.

People always think I'm lying when I tell them I average 16.5 MPG in my Jeep which is lifted 4" and has big 35" tires on it. Especially when other Jeepers in similar builds get 10-11 MPG. No, I'm not lying, I just don't drive like an impatient dick.

What gears are you running? Actually, I'd like to see your full build. Specs, photos, ect.

Demand goes up as supply goes down. So gas will continue to get more expensive no matter what. You can't protest away market forces.

If you don't like paying out the nose for gas, then trade your big block in for a TDI, a FiST or if you want to go really extreme with it, a crappy scooter. Get a Prius, even. Even a Prius is a better option than thinking monolithic transnational oil companies will give a shit about your complains when they'll get your money anyway.

I wish I could explain to people that when you see someone ahead of you going slower, there are other options than braking. Let off the throttle and coast, your car can do that! To many people, proper driving is being either on the gas or on the brakes, and they forget the third option.

If you see a red light, don't accelerate towards it and then brake once you reach it, just coast and it will probably be green by the time you get there. Then you can zoom right by the people who had to stop. Every time you touch the brakes, you're going to have to spend extra fuel to get back up to the speed you were at. Remember this!

Yes yes yes! I had an '05 Yukon XL 2500 with the 8.1 and stuck in traffic I would get 12 mpg, highway I got 15 one time, usually 14. Most people report 9-11 max on those. I was just gentle on the pedals (unless necessary).

Well I fill up every 5-6 weeks now. My Volt is netting me 103 mpg, about 1100-1200 miles per tank.

I get what I consider crap MPG in my lil Miata, but I don't drive nice when I can open her up because I'm stuck puttering around at 35 mph around my town so I end up getting annoyed so I like to whack my throttle to WOT for a little bit so I can just cruise around in 3rd gear at all times.

But going down the main drag the speed limit is 25 mph and if you do 25 mph you don't have to touch your brakes at all as the lights are perfectly sequenced for that rate of travel.

But then again a one day boycot does nothing to impact the big business that is oil. The mass of humanity are just not intelligent enough to realize that though. The status quo remains.

Same can be said for highway speeds too. The number of people i observe speeding up and slowing down on the freeway is insane. If they just kept a steady average speed their economy would increase and they would get to the same place in the same amount of time.

I do this all the time, but it is not as effective in an automatic. I've got a loaner Jeep this week and it's kind of scary how much it doesn't slow down when you let off the gas. I'm definitely more used to the engine braking of a manual. My gas mileage on the Jeep is in the high twenties because I barely need to hit the gas between lights!

Coasting to a red and hoping it will turn green is something I do all the time. Unfortunately I usually end up having to hit the brakes anyways because the people waiting for the light are texting/putting on makeup/generally not paying attention.

Yeah, it's not as effective in automatics, but it would cut down heavily on the amount of brake lights you see, which in turn cause a chain of reactionary drivers slowing down behind them. Much of the braking you see on the freeway isn't actually even to slow down, and is just a reaction to what they think they should be doing at the moment. In most of these cases, simply letting off the gas would do the same job, but it won't force the guy behind you to hit his brakes as well.

Think of all the traffic we would be spared if people practiced this!

The accelerator is not the enemy of fuel economy, brakes are. Every time you dab into those brakes you are scrubbing off the energy you just used to achieve that speed. I hammer down on the throttle but I also coast a lot when I'm coming towards a stop or slowed traffic. I also accelerate hard so I can quickly drop to the lowest engine rpm required to maintain my speed. In the computer world there is a concept called rush to idle, where a more powerful processor can use less power because it can complete a more complex task faster and return to an idle state consuming less power over all. It's not more efficient in all scenarios but in some specific ones it can be much more efficient.

Accelerating in any form uses more fuel than maintaining. The thing that really kills your fuel economy is not being smooth. If your going to accelerate from a light to say 35mph at 20% throttle, hold the throttle at 20% until you reach 35mph, then maintain that 35mph speed. Dont 20% to 20mph then let off to 15mph then 25% to 30mph, then let off to 25mph then 10% to 30mph then suddenly 80% to 40mph then jack on the brakes to get back down to 35mph...

Yes accelerating does use fuel but unless your going to flintstone it everywhere you've got to accelerate to get anywhere. How you followup your acceleration is the key factor to fuel economy. You can be at 5,000 rpm some times while driving and still be economical.

It's true, but most people wont understand the mechanics involved in figuring something like that out, especially as that's EXTREMELY vehicle dependent. Better to break it down to simple terms.
