Sol, I emailed Suzuki canada to ask if I could use Stainless steel brake lines made for a 08 SV650 ABS on a 09 Sv650 ABS.

they sent me back this:

Dear Peter,

Suzuki Canada cannot directly give you the assurance that the parts are totally interchangeable or not. Based on our parts catalogue it appears that it is the same parts for both model years. However if you do interchange these parts you do so at your own risk. We highly recommend that you have your work done by an Authorized Suzuki dealer to ensure everything is correct.

Yours truly,

Suzuki Canada

My first thought: A dealer would a freaking heart attack if they knew what I was trying to do lol.

so yea. I found it mildly amusing. have a treat for your time,

What are you trying to do? Move a whole ABS unit over?

I dunno, a lowercase v on the '09 is pretty suspicious...

no, 2007 GSX-R 1000 fork swap. but I want to keep the ABS on my bike. While I have the bike in pieces and i'm doing this, i'm going to upgrade to SS lines as well. BUT the only kits I found were for 2008 SV's with ABS, not for the 09. I dont know if they redesigned it or not, so I figured, meh, what the hell, i'll send them an email.

ahh, I would venture a guess that you will be fine. As long as the fittings are alright. There is a very slight possibility that the ABS is tuned for having rubber lines, but I really doubt it will make a difference.

What you're doing seems so completely questionable. Not the SS lines, the ABS thing. You're trying to mount an ABS system on a fork that wasn't designed for said ABS system. What exactly are you trying to accomplish? In what way in the 1000 fork swap not going to satisfy your braking needs?

Your original question regarding SS brake lines: they will fit. What you are doing: SV ABS system on a GSX-R 1000 fork: ugh.

Caveat: I own an '03 sv650, but haven't kept up with the changes since ABS was offered in 2006???

oh, the 1000 is going to completely satisfy my braking needs. but I have the ABS. I'm going to use the ABS (its my daily, so it gets ridden in the wet .....a lot. so its something i feel i benefit from)

and honestly? I dont see the big shtick about put ABS on this...the Abs has nothing to do with the fork....All I need is to figure out how to mount a ABS ring to it and the sensor, and voila, ABS!

I really dont get why ppl think its such a hassle....its the same sized wheel, the ABS system completely lets goes of the brakes, so its not like its only "just" letting off a little bit and the bigger brakes would still keep the wheel locked.

I'll admit I don't have a clue on it, but for me it doesn't pass the smell test. Have people done this before and to what degree is it an un-remarkable mod?

Best of luck.

thats just the thing, I dont see it as being something big...It just require a little bit of machining know how and some time and patience.

Still need to figure out how to mount some magnets to the brakes though. I need my speedometer

hundred of ppl have done the GSX-R fork swap. just no-one has bothered to try keeping the ABS.

yeah i know about the fork mod. good on you for trying, but just keep in mind that millions of people have ridden millions of trouble-free miles in the rain on bikes without ABS. Not questioning your intent, just saying this might be a project to let someone else test out first.

plus can't you sell your complete old fork for big $$$ to the GS500 crowd??? I thought the SV fork upgrade was a big thing over there.

Cheers.

well, I'm in school for a mechanical engineering degree, dad is a electrical engineer, and mom is a health and safety engineer. I'm doing this under there supervision and with help from a friend who builds race cars and used to build bikes.

on top of that, NO way in hell am I going to just build it and then ride it. I'm taking it to a shop that specializes in SV's first to have take a look at it.

so, I think i'm pretty well prepared to take this one, and I think I have a good chance of doing it right. (not to sound ccocky or anything)

I didnt know about the GS500 thing. huh. so I might actually be able to stay under my 1400$ budget then.

whats a front end off a 09 SV worth anyways? 500$ with wheel and fender and everything?
