A new lawsuit says General Motors Co should compensate millions of car and truck owners for lost resale value, potentially exceeding $10 billion, because a slew of recalls and a deadly delay in recalling cars with defective ignition switches has damaged its brand.

I'm not sure how a suit like this works....but do I just magically get a check or do I sign up some where.

class action suits will require proof you bought or leased the car within a set period of time so date x to y, you will also be required to show that your car is affected by whatever claims the suit makes, you also need to show that youve lost value on said vehicle and are the primary owner and therefore the primary person affected by said valuation loss.. Anymore details and youd need a lawyer to step in.

Okay, sounds like I'll actually be included depending on the date....
I mean the car was not entirely valuable in the first place, but i would bet it lost value over the ignition recall.

what most likely would happen is ideally your vin falls under the vins covered by teh recall - that makes it easy, then youd need some proof you have whatever issue it is , then maybe even a attempt at selling the car that went no where to prove you lost money so like a CL ad, then you usually call a 1800 number setup by teh firm representing the class action suit, you talk to them , they look at your car as a case and decide if you can apply to join the suit, assuming you do and assuming the case is won in your favor, you get a portion of the total damages - so if the dmges are 100 million and there is 2 million ppl in the suit you get 5 bucks.
