they can be had for $5k, not in the condition like you pictures. Barely running and needs bodywork for $5k maybe.

Don't forget they paint the cars before shooting. while it may look good on film in real life it's probably full of runs and overspray. by no means do they do a professional paint job just an extremely quick re-spray. I remember the guy that had bought the top gear Merkur said the paint was shit.

It just seems weird to me. If you're gonna do a $5k challenge, the cars are probably gonna gonna look like crap. Everyone knows it. I can see putting on new tires and brakes (stuff that will stop you from getting killed in the car) paint just seems like it should be lower on the list.
